corona virus to children

A study by Chinese researchers indicated that the emerging corona virus does not spread from pregnant mothers to newborns. The study, published in Frontiers in Pediatrics, reported that four children were born to mothers with corona virus in a hospital in Wuhan (China) - the new coronary virus outbreak center -

They show no signs of infection and are still healthy to this day.

According to the press release issued by the authors of the study, the four HIV-positive mothers gave birth to Wuhan Hospital, and none of the infants had any serious symptoms associated with Covid-19, such as fever or coughing. However, all infants were isolated in the intensive care units. Three of the respiratory infections were negative, while the fourth child''s mother refused to allow the test for her infant.

In a previous study of nine infected mothers, scientists also did not find any evidence that viral infection could be transmitted from mothers to children, and all nine births were by cesarean delivery, as is the case of three of the four cases in the current study.

"To avoid infection in the antenatal and postnatal period, our obstetricians believe that a cesarean section can be safer," says the researcher with the Huachong University of Science and Technology and the Department of Pediatrics at Union Hospital in Wuhan, Yalan Liu.

Liu notes that during previous outbreaks of other coronavirus viruses, scientists also did not find any evidence of mother-to-child transmission, but both SARS and MEA were associated with miscarriage, and in some cases maternal death.

Despite the results of the study, published on Monday, researchers confirm that more research is needed on other aspects of the potential transmission of Covid-19 infection for newborns. Researchers are collecting additional samples from newborns, including the placenta and amniotic fluid, to detect potential viral receptors.
