Al-Hayat learned that the International Conference on Family Medicine, which started its activities yesterday, with the scissors of the Minister of Health, Dr. Hamad Al-Maneh, was subjected to a major financial crisis after the Ministry and King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah Governorate abandoned his financial support, which called upon the organizers of the conference to beg the pharmaceutical companies To save them from the critical situation with doctors and interested persons coming from outside Saudi Arabia, especially after sending invitation cards to a large number of foreign guests to attend the conference.
Sources familiar with the details of the crisis said in an interview with "Al-Hayat": "The organization of the conference, which is being held for the first time in Saudi Arabia, faced great difficulties in financial supplies due to unknown reasons, as the Ministry of Health and King Faisal Specialist Hospital only participated in a number of doctors and specialists in the field of family medicine. Although the conference program and plan was announced some time ago, a number of pharmaceutical companies interacted with the solution to the crisis and contributed to organizing the conference.
For her part, Dr. Suhair Al-Tayyar, a family medicine specialist, explained to Al-Hayat that such conferences come in order to the information of the family doctor and remind doctors of the tasks assigned to them in this field, adding that the family doctor is interested in providing comprehensive medical care, contrary to their ability to treat what was attributed 80 percent of the diseases known and common in society, being the first line of defense for the family, while 20 percent of diseases are transferred to specialists for follow-up.
Al Tayyar said: "It is always advised that the patient refer to the family doctor, being the expert in the patient''s health file, which gives better results, unlike random detection and moving from one doctor to another in search of treatment, which causes repeated analyzes, and falling in the jurisprudence to diagnose the case." .
She noted that the conference witnessed a wide turnout by interested and specialists since yesterday morning, hoping at the same time that such conferences will be supported, in light of the presence of speakers, good relations, the ability to organize and lead such international events that have a positive impact on society.
Al-Tayyar pointed out that the activities of the International Conference on Family Medicine will continue for two days, with the participation of a group of specialists in the field of family and community medicine from inside and outside Saudi Arabia, in addition to a number of international speakers specialized in this field.
She added that the conference will discuss the new in the field of family medicine and developments in many medical topics such as women''s, men''s and children''s health, recent developments in common heart diseases, ways to prevent them, skin diseases and mental health. The conference also includes many workshops, which contribute to developing skills Clinics with family and community physicians.
