participants for conferences
"Pediatrics Society" holding back women! A Saudi pediatrician criticized the mechanism adopted by the Saudi Pediatric Society for choosing participants in its fifth conference held from 7-9 February 2017, accusing them of excluding Saudi female doctors from participating and limiting their representation in the conference, by 6% of the total invited speakers .
In detail, the pediatric consultant, growth and behavior of children and the assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine at King Saud University of Health Sciences in Riyadh, Dr. Fatima Al-Ahmari, criticized the exclusion of the Saudi doctor from such scientific forums, noting that the number of speakers and participants in working papers in the said conference amounted to approximately 45 speakers, Of them, only three were female doctors, accounting for only 6 percent, although they were more close to specialization and deepened in reality more than men.
Al-Ahmari considered this a clear violation of the regulations and generalizations of the recognized scientific societies, where a scientific symposium is announced, and everyone is asked to submit scientific summaries, after which the scientific committee nominates speakers and speakers according to the abundance and efficiency of the scientific content, and not according to the age or gender of the applicant or Any other considerations.
She pointed out that the Saudi Pediatric Society has for a period of not long been announcing the establishment of scientific symposia for all, after ing all lecturers, the completion of the scientific program and its content, and without announcing the request of scientific abstracts as is universally accepted, which led to monotony of content and repetition of names And modularity of style every year!
She added that the members of the Board of Directors, the Scientific Committee, and the Organizational Committee represent the Saudi physician at zero percent, indicating that there is a monopoly for a specific age group, which is the fifth decade of age and above, and that some lecturers hardly read the paper presented due to the severe age progression, 60-80 years. Of age.
Dr. Al-Ahmari stressed that "this does not mean insult in any scientific competence. Everyone has one goal, which is participation in advancing science and development in our dear country, but the Saudi doctor should not be ignored or excluded by young or ambitious scientific competencies."
It is reported that, according to the Ministry of Health statistics issued recently, there are 917 Saudi doctors in Jeddah, 484 Saudi doctors in Riyadh, and 668 Saudi doctors in Sharqia, the majority of whom are in the specialties of children, women and childbirth. It is also noteworthy that the Saudi Pediatric Society is a scientific association affiliated with the organizational structure of the Department of Scientific Societies at King Saud University.
