A Saudi doctor enabled the publication of a rare inverted condition, where he performed surgery, which is one of the new methods of removing more than two-thirds of the liver because of a cancerous tumor in it, in two batches. The operation was conducted by Dr. Thamer bin Hadi bin Zakir Al-Ghamdi at the University Hospital of George August University in the city of Göttingen, Germany at the head of a medical team that includes several specialties, an native method for the process of liver resection after blocking the portal vein occlusion, which allows the reconstruction of liver tissue in Cancer cases in the fourth, fifth, and eighth lobes.
The first step of the operation was to open the patient''s upper abdominal wall under complete anesthesia by slitting under the ribs on the left side, because it is inverted organs, followed by moving the liver by separating all the ligaments attached to it, then the left and middle hepatic vein is separated, and then the hepatic artery branches The left and right enters the fourth lobe of the liver, then the left hepatic portal vein and the left bile duct is separated, after which the liver tissue is separated using ultrasound within the processes to determine the boundaries of the tumor without removing the entire hepatic portion to be removed and remain inside the abdomen, thus the first stage has ended .
After seven days, the patient underwent a CT scan of the abdomen and analysis of the size of the liver, which showed an increase in the size of the remaining liver by 425 cubic millimeters, or 0.44% of the size of the body, and the liver, after increasing its size, was sufficient to meet the body''s need, and on the eighth day of the first operation, the removal was completed For two thirds of the liver, whose tissues were separated in the first operation.
This innovative method was published in a recognized global newspaper under the name of Dr. Thamer Al-Ghamdi as publisher of the president and other members of the medical team.
This process was characterized by the fact that it regenerates the liver tissue faster than building it after blocking the portal vein.
Also, the complete eradication process is less than ten days after the first operation, meaning that in this short period the possibility of spreading the tumor is very low compared to conducting the operation from two to three months after blocking the vein entering the liver only.
It is mentioned that Dr. Thamer Al-Ghamdi, a faculty member at the Faculty of Medicine at Al-Baha University and a scholarship to obtain the German Fellowship of Visceral Surgery, is one of the first cadres who contributed to the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine at Al-Baha University under the supervision of Professor Imad Koshak, the founding dean of the college, and he has a new discovery regarding liver surgery that he will see Light soon, God willing, during the next two months.
