A medical team at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh succeeded in transplanting stem cells around the eye of a Saudi girl who was exposed to a hot water steam accident. The operation, which is considered one of the rare operations, was performed by Dr. Abdullah Ahmad Al-Asiri, and the girl lost her eyesight as a result of exposure to hot water vapor resulting from the pressure pot, which caused her opacity on the cornea with eyes that led to her loss of vision, and the patient needed a transplant of stem cells around the eye, despite The cornea can be obtained from any donor to transplant it to the eye, but the stem cells must be obtained from a relative, which required the patient’s sister to enter the hospital where she donated stem cells from the conjunctiva of the eye around the cornea that were transplanted to the affected eye of her sister.
Dr. Al-Asiri explained that such rare cases must be dealt with quickly and accurately and provide the appropriate stem cells from the relatives of the patient, bearing in mind that this is the second operation of the patient as she had previously had an operation in the other eye after taking the stem cells from the patient''s brother and regained her vision, praise be to God.
