The Specialized Medical Center Hospital in Riyadh conducted a surgery, the first of its kind in the Middle East region in the private medical sector, on Thursday, where the operation is represented by implanting an electronic middle ear implant completely hidden under the skin. The operation was performed by Prof. Dr. Khaled Taiba, a consultant in otorhinolaryngology, head, neck and neck surgery, and electronic cochlear implantation, and a professor at the College of Medicine at Al-Faisal University and Director of the Otolaryngology Center in Riyadh.
It is worth noting that this operation is performed for those who suffer from moderate hearing loss, and who use throughout their lives traditional hearing devices, which have always suffered from the negative social view of traditional headphones, in addition to their permanent problems in terms of poor sound and echo and lack of understanding speech when there is noise, and the process of implanting ear implants. Al-Wusta is not a process by which traditional assistive hearing devices or cochlear implants are installed, but rather an integrated process through which a device is implanted directly under the skin, making it invisible. Dr. Khaled Al-Subaie, Executive Director General of the Specialized Medical Center Hospital in Riyadh, considers that the development in the private health sector and the ability to provide special standards, high technical techniques and qualified medical personnel in addition to the advanced and modern equipment in the operating rooms all of this led to the possibility of conducting such major and specialized operations.
