A Saudi medical team at King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Jeddah has successfully performed an operation that is the first of its kind in the Kingdom and the Middle East.

In detail, the medical team consisted of 10 Saudi doctors led by Dr. Hani bin Zuhair Al Marzouqi, consultant head and neck surgery and microscopic reconstructive surgery, head of the department of otolaryngology, Dr. Mazen Adnan Mardad, consultant head and neck surgery, deputy head of the department, and Dr. Hattan Abdul Hafiz Al-Ja''ali, consultant plastic surgery and microscopic reconstructive surgery.

The patient who underwent the operation is 50 years old and was suffering due to a cancerous tumor in the jaw and lower lip and the emergence of a cancerous tumor from the face, and the patient hesitated to several hospitals and advised him to go to a hospital specialized in dealing with these cases, where a lower jaw excision was done with the tumor and restoration was done For the face and jaw, after taking the outer leg bone, taking skin from the soles of the hand and leg, making a patch on the face, and removing the lymph glands from the neck from the right and left sides.

The operation took approximately 17 continuous hours, as this process is considered one of the rare operations as it requires a qualified medical team with high experience to deal with such cases.

On this occasion, Dr. Hani Al-Marzouki expressed his thanks and appreciation to the medical team participating in the operation and said that such operations are only performed with the participation of a distinguished medical team.

He pointed out that a unit specializing in head and neck tumor surgery has been established at King Abdulaziz University, headed by Dr. Saad Al-Mahyawy.

On the other hand, the Director of the University Hospital, Dr. Amr bin Muhammad Al Habashi, expressed his thanks to the distinguished medical team and all the medical staff at the hospital, stressing that all medical capabilities and equipment for the hospital were provided to deal with all cases under the support and leadership of our wise government.
