subject to research
The Director General of the Executive Office of the Council of Health Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Tawfiq bin Ahmed Khoja, warned diabetics from going abroad to implant stem cells, after noticing the spread of a video clip circulated by community members encouraging a young man suffering from diabetes to transplant abroad. He pointed out that these commercial centers conduct research on patients, indicating that until now, stem cell transplantation for diabetic patients is still in the stage of research and experimentation, and Gulf Health warns all diabetic patients against falling victim to brokers abroad who exploit patients'' conditions.
For his part, an associate professor and consultant endocrinologist at the College of Medicine at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Dr. Abdel-Moein Al-Agha, warned of the repercussions of global centers that have succeeded in stem cell transplants for diabetes patients, pointing out that they are commercial centers, indicating that these researches, although they give great hopes, but there are still many Of the effort that must be made before achieving these hopes, there are technical challenges that must be overcome first before starting to apply these discoveries in medical clinics, adding that stem cells have the ability to divide, multiply and renew themselves and are primitive cells that are not differentiated into specialized cell types. It is allowed to function as a body repair device, replacing other idle cells and maintaining the function of bodily organs, and medical research experts believe that stem cells with this ability are able to change the history of human diseases by using them to repair specialized tissue or by pushing them to grow in the form of a specific vital organ Despite this, this research raises many ethical and humanitarian concerns, forcing many countries to enact legislations that define this scientific research.
The consultant endocrinologist and diabetes and the director of Al-Thaghr General Hospital in Jeddah, Dr. Nasser bin Raja Allah Al-Juhani, confirmed that the issue of stem cells is still under experiments and research, indicating that any new treatment technology must undergo many experiments until it is finally approved, especially since the matter is related to diabetes, which It is considered one of the diseases that are widespread on a global scale.
