stricture repair

A Saudi medical team headed by a consultant urologist at King Faisal Hospital in Makkah, Dr. Samir Munshi, succeeded in performing a narrow urethral repair by surgically implanting part of the membrane of the oral cavity into the narrow part of the urethra. The director of the hospital, Dr. Raef Qutb, explained that the operation was performed for the first time in King Faisal Hospital, where the patient suffered for several years from a narrowing of the urethra with a length of 4 cm, which resulted in the patient''s inability to urinate normally through the urethra, and instead of that a catheter was placed for him under the abdomen directly connected to the bladder And, because of the length of the narrowing, the traditional methods of treating this narrowing by laparoscopic dilation were very difficult and the failure rate was high, so the treating medical team saw the procedure of expanding the urethra by opening the surgical opening, and a patch was taken from the membrane lining the oral cavity from the patient and re-implanted in the narrowed area What made it easier for the patient to urinate after suffering that lasted for many years.

Dr. Qutb praised the support that the King Faisal Hospital in Makkah is receiving from His Excellency the Minister of Health in charge, Engineer Adel Fakih, and the Director General of Health Affairs in Makkah Al-Mukarramah Region, Dr. Abdul Salam Noor Wali.

The urologist, Dr. Haroun Othman, and the consultant and head of the urology department at the hospital, Dr. Samir Munshi, participated in the surgical procedure. The operation was a success, praise be to God.
