Laparoscopic surgery, which is a modern technique in surgical operations that perform operations in the abdomen through small incisions (usually 0.5 to 1.5 cm) compared to the size of the incisions required in traditional surgeries, which may range from 5 to 20 cm or more in some cases. The surgeon uses technological and television devices to perform these operations, as he uses the images displayed on television screens to enlarge the image and make the procedure for the operation using specially made long surgical tools instead of opening the abdomen large to see the contents of the abdominal cavity, which are used in traditional laparotomy operations.

Laparoscopic surgery includes operations inside the abdominal or pelvic cavities called Laparoscopy, and also operations that take place inside the chest cavity called Thoracoscopy and other endoscopic surgeries which are called according to the cavity in which they are used.

There are a number of advantages to the patient with laparoscopic surgery versus performing traditional operations using large open wounds. These include less pain due to the use of small incisions and less bleeding as well, and the need for a shorter time to return to normal life compared to traditional procedures.

The main component of laparoscopic surgery is the use of a laparoscope. It consists of a telescopic lens that is usually linked to a video camera, and it may use third-dimensional cameras and screens as well, and devices are used to push gas into the cavity to lift the abdominal wall over the internal organs, such as a dome, to a working and viewing space that enables the surgeon to move surgical tools. Usually, carbon dioxide is used because it is easy to absorb from the body and has a lower risk than other types of gas, as well as because it is one of the gases that does not ignite compared to other types. This is important because electrical devices are usually used in laparoscopic procedures.

Optical fibers that are connected to a cold light source such as halogen and xenon are also used to cast light into the cavity it is intended to work with. So that the surgeon can see inside the socket.

In order for the surgeon to use the endoscope, he must train extensively and practice education in special courses that enable him to understand the elements and tools used extensively and master the use of long surgical tools with ability and precision that keeps the patient away from injuries and complications. Especially endoscope.
