surgery
The annual spending in the UAE on plastic surgery is 500 million dirhams, at a time when doctors and specialists stressed the importance of exchanging experiences related to plastic surgery and cosmetic treatments and discussing the latest findings of studies in this field. At the same time, we warn against the trend of wrong cosmetic practices that rely on unqualified doctors.
This came during the launch of the third session of the Emirati Academy of Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Conference and Exhibition "Emirates Derma", which will last for three days at the Beach Rotana Hotel, Abu Dhabi, which deals with the latest developments in the dermatology sector and highlights the challenges facing workers and specialists in This sector is attended by more than 300 participants and visitors from all over the world, and with the participation of the most prominent dermatologists, cosmetologists, surgeons and health care professionals from the UAE and the world.
The conference agenda for this year includes 59 important scientific sessions focusing on various developments and topics related to plastic surgery, laser, cosmetic dermatology, anti-aging and others, in which more than 44 experts and speakers from 23 countries around the world will present their experiences and the latest technologies in various disciplines.
In this context, Dr. Hassan Galadari, a professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the United Arab Emirates University, a consultant of dermatology and the president of the conference, stressed the importance of the conference and exhibition of the Emirati Academy of Dermatology, Laser and Beauty «Emirates Derma», to discuss cosmetic developments, especially those related to injection. The conference is like a cosmetic injection camp, which discusses all Cosmetic matters related to injections of botox, fillers and mesotherapy.
He referred to the conference’s discussion of a study on treating hair loss using plasma, which was previously unconfirmed, but recent research confirmed that this type of treatment is the best treatment for hair loss.
On the cost of cosmetic treatments, he pointed out that some specialties are really expensive due to the lack of specialists in some areas, including hair transplantation, which people tend to perform in some countries where doctors are available. Pointing to the progress this field is making in the country through the use of artificial intelligence through the robot, which is able to identify the suitable places for transplantation and the locations of thick hair.
He pointed out that the annual value of the state''s annual spending on plastic surgery amounts to 500 million dirhams, and liposuction procedures are the most popular cosmetic surgeries for women and men, followed by breast augmentation for women and hair transplantation for men. As for non-surgical cosmetic operations, Botox and fillers are the leading lasers of all kinds. He pointed out that men are attracting plastic surgeries remarkably, and that about 15 to 20% of the demand for plastic surgery is from men.
He pointed out that there are many techniques in cosmetology that depend on artificial intelligence, including a camera for the face, once it is directed at the person''s face, it shows the places of the anatomy and the arteries on the face, thus avoiding the doctor accidentally injecting and causing side effects.
He mentioned that plastic surgery in the UAE is witnessing a high and continuous demand, and some cosmetic practices precede scientific research, and this is problematic, especially when it is not based on scientific research. Many prefer to try some new operations, and some doctors refuse to conduct them due to the lack of adequate studies about their success, while there are some Doctors are ready to perform any new operations for financial gain. Dr. Galadari said, "The importance of such conferences is to organize cosmetic practices by doctors and educate people about them, with the presence of experts from inside and outside the country using studies and practical and studied matters."
With regard to adolescents, Dr. Hassan explained that the demand of adolescents in plastic surgery is witnessing an increase in the country, which must be dealt with with caution, especially since the teenage age is witnessing physical changes, and doctors must refrain from performing plastic surgery for them as they are under the legal age, and need the approval of a guardian Command.
And he warned against dealing with clinics with an unknown reputation, and that depend on social media ads, as the person declared is paid for this advertisement, and perhaps there is no credibility or real experience with him.
He pointed out that medical errors and collateral damage that may occur depend on the person''s choice of the clinic and the doctor, for example to go to a doctor with insufficient experience to perform a certain type of surgery or the place itself is not prepared for some cosmetic operations. Pointing out that the patient’s awareness plays a role in this matter along with the competent authorities to the extent of the facility’s eligibility to perform certain types of operations.
Exchange of experiences
Dr. Alaa Aref, a consultant dermatologist and cosmetologist from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, emphasized the importance of the Emirati-Saudi cooperation in all medical fields and the exchange of expertise, including the specialty of cosmetology, and her participation comes to talk about injections through the presence of Saudi experts specialized in the field.
She said, "It is good to exchange experiences to improve the level of cosmetic injections at the Gulf level, especially with the presence of many misconceptions and practices in this field." She indicated that her session was about cosmetic injections in the entire face, signs of aging, facial problems and muscle relaxation, by persuading the patient to reach the satisfactory result by injecting the appropriate areas for injection.
Regarding facial deformities due to injection, Dr. Alaa Aref explained that distortion has several causes, whether the injection is an invalid substance or it is placed too much, or inconsistent injections, or the use of materials not suitable for the person. Pointing out the different tastes of people in injections, and it must be emphasized that the "fashion" for excessive injections has ended, and it is no longer desirable for a person to appear to have undergone the injection and is considered a false cosmetic.
And she stressed the importance of the person wanting to be injected with the help of licensed clinics under the supervision of specialized doctors, and the patient has the right to know the materials that will be injected with it. Noting the great level of supervision and medical handling of these materials in specialized centers by means of storage, opening and sterilization.
Dr. Alaa Aref warned against resorting to people who are not qualified in injections and cosmetics, especially those who carry a bag and knock on the doors of homes providing their services at lower prices, and consider it a hobby for the purpose of financial gain, provided with counterfeit, expired and permanent materials, which basically no longer exist due to their risks. Noting that such people use cheaper, smuggled or expired materials that then cause disfigurement, clots and even blindness.
Dr. Haitham Jamjoom, a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, said that during the two sessions he presented at the conference, he discussed the anatomy of the face in the correct way, which works to reduce injuries that occur due to injection, in addition to a session on beauty signs in the mid-face area.
He pointed out that the complications of incorrect injection may cause blindness in the case of injection into the area of the nerves towards the eye, or it is possible that the injection affects a part of the perfusion of the skin and thus becomes dead skin.
