The consultant gastroenterologist, endoscopy and liver transplantation at the Specialist Hospital in Riyadh Al-Moataz Hashem explained that liver cancer is one of the most common cancers in Saudi Arabia, with a rate of 7% in males and 3% in females, and it ranks fifth in the world in terms of its spread, affecting more than 500 thousand people every year, stressing that 80% of these cases are spread in Asia and Africa, due to the spread of the B and C virus.

Dr. Hashem pointed to the relationship of obesity to liver infections and tumors, explaining that weight gain increases fat deposition rates in the liver, which leads to the transformation of these fats into liver infections, and may lead, in a small percentage, to liver tumors and cancers, explaining that hepatitis B viruses And "c" is one of the most important causes of fibrosis, and then liver cancer, in addition to other causes of fibrosis such as alcohol, fats, immune inflammation, and iron deposition, indicating that the fibrous liver is a fertile ground for the occurrence of cancerous tumors, regardless of the cause of fibrosis and the variation in proportions. Dr. Hashim noted the findings of the studies, that hepatitis B viruses can cause liver cancer even without the occurrence of cirrhosis, adding that treating or reducing the severity of the disease that causes P or C virus reduces the risk of infection by 20% to Less than 5%.
