Dr. Al-Saif spoke at the beginning, explaining the importance of this symposium: Thyroid cancer is the second most common tumor in women after breast cancer, and infection rates reach 10 percent of cancer cases. He added that according to the National Oncology Registry in the Kingdom, which is a registry that counts and records all Cases of genetic tumors in the Kingdom, thyroid cancer affects about six women out of every hundred thousand, and ages range between 25 and 40. This is for women. As for men, when it strikes a man it is more virulent and affects a man for every four women and affects men between the ages of 45 and 45. 50 years old. # 2 # # 3 # Dr. Al-Saif assured that thyroid cancer is one of the tumors in which the cure rate is very high if it is treated in the right way and diagnosed early, and he said that the treatment boils down to early diagnosis and effective early treatment, then early and continuous follow-up. On his part, Dr. Anwar Al-Jamah divided thyroid diseases into three sections: firstly, hyperthyroidism, secondly, lazy thyroid gland, and third, thyroid gland tumors, which in turn are divided into two sections: benign tumors and malignant tumors, and it is the subject of this symposium, where it talks about malignant tumors exclusively in the thyroid gland . It is one of the most common tumors in the region, and women are more than men, but the disease is more dangerous for men. Regarding the causes of thyroid tumors, he said: “They usually start from lumps or nodes and some people call them cysts in the thyroid gland itself, and this is more common among women than men and some studies indicate that the percentage of women with this disease is more than 50 percent, but most of the lumps or Nodules are benign and thyroid cancer has a rate of 3 to 5 percent of each node. There are no specific causes of thyroid cancer, but we are concerned with two factors, one genetic factor and the other is exposure to radiation in large doses. Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Saif explained that weight gain, laziness, hair loss, irregular menstruation in women, constipation and a change in mood are symptoms of low thyroid secretion, but they are not symptoms of thyroid cancer. He said, "Thyroid cancer may come in the presence of a normal-secreting thyroid gland, and it may come in the presence of a highly secreted thyroid gland, and it also comes in the presence of a low-secreting thyroid gland, as it may come with all three cases."

And about the symptoms that afflict the patient and make him go to the thyroid doctor, he said: Either the patient has a prominent mass or a prominent enlargement of the thyroid gland located at the front of the neck, or there are symptoms of decreased thyroid secretion or symptoms of increased activity, which are a decrease in weight and a lot of movement Heart palpitations, protrusion in the eyes, mood swings and diarrhea, these are all symptoms of increased thyroid activity, which in a few cases may be associated with thyroid cancer, but in many cases it is not associated with thyroid cancer, as these are symptoms of a lump or protrusion in the front of the neck or symptoms of a decrease or Prolapse symptoms. Regarding the treatment, Dr. Al-Saif explained that the first step is an accurate and early diagnosis and the initiation of the operation under the supervision of a surgeon specializing in thyroid tumors, which is the most important step in treatment. After that, that is, after the end of the surgery and the patient''s recovery, the endocrinologist specializing in thyroid gland tumors takes care of the patient after God Almighty, in addition to the doctor who specializes in nuclear radiation medicine and this is the second stage of treatment, as the first stage is an accurate diagnosis and a surgical process, which is Under the supervision of a physician. Dr. Al-Saif also announced the opening of three rooms for treating thyroid cancer with radioactive iodine at King Khalid Hospital, as part of a pioneering project to establish a specialized center for the treatment of tumors, adding: King Saud University represented by university hospitals made sure that all its future projects meet the needs of citizens and residents. Three rooms for treating thyroid cancer with radioactive iodine. These will serve patients on a very large scale in the Riyadh region and will relieve the burdens on other health authorities, which perform this service at the present time. He added that these three rooms for treating patients with thyroid cancer come within the framework of the work on the completion of a gigantic project called the Oncology Center, which is expected to alleviate the suffering of patients and patients with various types of tumors, including thyroid tumors, as they were to be among the departments of the center Oncology in university hospitals, special rooms for the treatment of thyroid cancer with radioactive iodine, which is what has been done, praise be to God now, as they have been opened, and the other departments of the Oncology Center will be opened successively, God willing. Dr. Anwar Al-Jamah stressed the importance of the thyroid doctor being a specialist and has experience in this field, and said: It is important for early diagnosis and the most important thing is surgery, as the surgeon who performs the thyroidectomy operation must have experience in treatment, so the field is not open to any surgeon. To have specialized and experienced surgeons in this field.
