surgical network
A scientific team from King Abdulaziz University succeeded in registering a global patent from the US Patent Office, following an innovation.
The head of the scientific team, consultant obesity and minimally invasive surgery at the university, Dr. Abdul Malik bin Muhammad Saleh Al-Taf, explained that the invention is to a surgical artificial network that can be used in surgeries to treat hernias in contaminated surgical areas, indicating that
In some advanced hernia cases, the surgical areas are contaminated with bacteria present in the tissues of the body, which constitutes an obstacle to the use of artificial networks in these cases, so surgeons are forced to treat the hernia without using a mesh or to use a (biological) network that is less effective than artificial networks, but the innovative network secretes an antibiotic in The surrounding tissues for a period of not less than 14 days lead to elimination of bacteria.
And he indicated that the scientific team used nanotechnology to engineer the surgical artificial network material and incorporate antibiotics into the network’s structure, and then they were tested on experimental animals where they proved their effectiveness.
It is noteworthy that the scientific team that worked for four years at King Abdulaziz University to reach this achievement included the team leader, Dr. Abdul-Malik Al-Taf, Dr. Seham Abdel-Hadi, Dr. Faisal Abdel-Hadi and Dr. Mahmoud Abdel-Majeed.
