University hospitals continue to celebrate World Hepatitis Day 2011 in the complexes University hospitals at King Saud University continue on Wednesday and Thursday the activities of the educational and awareness campaign on the occasion of the World Hepatitis Day 2011 under the slogan “This is Hepatitis,” which was recently opened by the Dean of the College of Medicine and the supervisor of hospitals The university / Prof. Mubarak bin Fahad Al Faran organized the digestive system unit in cooperation with the University Hospitals Health Education Center, the World Hepatitis Organization (WHA) and the Saudi Gastrointestinal Association (SGA), where it has been noticed in recent times the large spread of diseases that have raised public concern and fears . And hepatitis C is one of the most dangerous of these diseases, and it is a viral infection that affects the liver, which causes the occurrence of chronic diseases that threaten the patient''s life if not treated in a timely manner. The virus is transmitted between humans through contact with the blood of the person carrying the infection or contact with other body fluids and not through casual contact. The only way to limit the spread of this disease is to educate the community about methods of protection and prevention, and there are six types of viruses, the most widespread of which are hepatitis B virus. It is estimated about 2 billion people are infected around the world and nearly 130 million people suffer from chronic infection with the hepatitis C virus (hepatitis C), and it is estimated annually 1.4 million cases of hepatitis A infection.

The head of the digestive system unit, Dr. Khaled bin Eida Al-Sowat explained that this campaign aims to raise awareness of the most well-known viral liver diseases (B (B) and C), which may lead to some patients if they are not discovered early and treat cirrhosis and its complications. Today''s activities are held in most countries of the world under the auspices of governmental and non-governmental organizations and associations with groups of infected patients and their supporters, with the aim of limiting the spread of these viruses by raising awareness of infection methods and supporting what limits the emergence of new cases. He hopes that we will deliver a message to the community by raising awareness of these diseases and ways of transmitting these viruses and reducing them, with awareness of the correct treatment methods, in addition to the importance of following up with specialists for the infected and examining their relatives, and that there is interest without concern or neglect!

As this campaign was inaugurated at King Khalid University Hospital last Monday and the campaign is still continuing, as an educational exhibition was held at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, followed by an awareness exhibition and other accompanying programs in Al Hayat Mall on Wednesday and Thursday 26-27 / 8/1432 AH corresponding to 27-28 / 7/2011 AD The programs include recreational teams for children organized by the Tigers team with the hospitality of a group of doctors in addition to some other activities.

Dr. Khaled also thanked on this occasion all the bodies supporting these activities, whether from the university administration and the College of Medicine represented by the President of the University Prof. Dr. Abdullah Al-Othman and the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Mubarak Al-Faran, who encouraged, welcomed and supported this event, or from other bodies such as The Saudi Society for the Digestive System and the male and female students participating in this campaign, as well as the health education and public relations department, and the nutrition department in university hospitals, companies and other support agencies.

The President of the Saudi Society for the Digestive System, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Jibreen, thanked all the brothers and sisters in charge of this project and all the projects and activities that made supporting the patient, educating the community and engaging with it its first concern and its strategic project on which it is betting on and on which many ambitions are built to raise the level of health service and communicate with The medical community in the easiest way to complete the construction and complete the project. When we compare the number of conferences and seminars offered to doctors and compare them with those that we offer to the community, the gap between the medical community and the rest of society becomes clear, he added. Therefore, it was necessary for us in the Saudi Society for the Digestive System and other medical societies to give community service its priority and despite the issuance of many medical leaflets and their distribution to the Kingdom''s hospitals and their publication on the Society''s page and participation in the establishment of such an international medical day and the formation of the Saudi group for wheat allergy patients, but Responsibility is still great and ambition is greater, God willing. We would also like to see a support group for patients with hepatitis that does not care about the awareness aspect only, but also cares about all the forgotten aspects of supporting these patients from a psychological point of view to cope with the disease, treatment and society and last but not least I thank His Excellency Brigadier General Dr. Mubarak Al-Faran for this care and kind gesture despite his many concerns, especially On such days, I ask God to grant success to all those in charge of this project and to write these works in their balance and make them among the best of people and they are so because they are more beneficial to people.
