surgical radiation

A medical team at King Abdulaziz University Hospital under the supervision of Radiotherapy Oncology Consultant Dr. Rolina Kamal Al-Wessia in the treatment of the first case of a secondary tumor in the brain, using the technique of three-dimensional surgical radiation, in one focused session during which three small tumor masses ranging in size from 1.5 to 1.9 cm were destroyed in a 56-year-old patient. The patient left the hospital in good health and stable condition after staying in the hospital for 4 hours of observation under observation.

The team treating the case includes Professor Yasser Abdulaziz Bahadur, head of the University''s radiology department, the medical physics team, and two therapeutic radiology specialists.

It is mentioned that 3D surgical radiation is a type of radiotherapy that treats the patient very accurately due to the technique that is used to place the patient''s head in a special position inside a mask used to locate the tumor in three dimensions inside the brain, and the other reason for calling it three-dimensional surgical radiation is that A high, focused radiation dose is used in one session, and the effect on the tumor is similar to surgery.

In general, radiation therapy is used to treat brain tumors, usually after the removal of the tumor and in other cases when surgery is not possible due to the location of the tumor in sensitive areas in the brain or its presence at a depth that makes it difficult to reach surgically, then radiotherapy is the best treatment, it causes acid damage The nuclear tumor stops its cells from multiplying and causes the death of its tissues.
