Ibuprofen is better than morphine in relieving pain in children with broken limbs. Medical News - Amman Researchers from the London Health Sciences Center and Western University in Ontario-Canada say in a recently published study that ibuprofen is better than morphine in relieving pain in children with fractures fringe.
Although both are effective in relieving pain, ibuprofen has been associated with less severe side effects than morphine in this particular group of patients.
Researchers compared the results of 66 children treated with morphine with those of 68 children treated with ibuprofen to relieve fracture pain. All participants were between 5-17 years old.
The results show that although both drugs are effective for relieving pain, there were more harmful side effects - such as drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting - associated with morphine.
We conclude that ibuprofen remains a safe and effective treatment for fracture pain in children.
