You have pain in the lower heel that is more intense in the morning and after sitting for a long time. What is the reason? How is the treatment? An article by Dr. Khaled bin Muhammad Abdul Qadir Idris, consultant foot and ankle medicine and surgery. There are several reasons for this condition, including hair in the heel bone, tumors or inflammation in the area. But most of the time the cause is a defect in the joints of the foot that leads to an abnormal movement in the plantar tendon at the bottom of the foot, this tendon pulls or pulls a strong pull on the heel bone from the bottom causing local inflammation in this bone and thus severe pain sometimes.
There is a so-called bony nail at the bottom of the heel bone. Some believe that it is the cause of the pain, but it is in fact one of the consequences of this problem and not the cause.
As for the intensity of pain in the morning or after a period of rest, it is due to the contraction of this tendon at the time of rest and the body''s attempt to repair the damage that occurred, and when a person stands on his foot, the cycle begins again and the tension and inflammation begins again.
What''s the solution???
Thankfully, there are multiple solutions to this disease, bearing in mind that taking painkillers alone is not sufficient because it does not address the root of the problem, which is abnormal pulling or pulling on the heel bone by the plantar tendon.
So the correct solution is to straighten the joints of the foot and prevent them from incorrect performance. This is done by placing an orthosis inside the shoe that helps position the foot and the movement of its many joints at correct angles reduces the tension of the plantar tendon on the heel bone.
At the same time, people often need weight loss, physical therapy, and foot and ankle joints to strengthen muscles and increase tendon flexibility.
But if the pain is very severe, then we give the patient pills, and it is also possible to give needles in the heel to reduce inflammation and reduce pain
A lot of people are afraid of needles, but in the right case it is one of the best solutions that, God willing, can be of benefit to the patient ... At the same time, it is not possible to over-give the needles because its harm will disappear if it exceeds three times, noting that the needles usually have a small amount of cortisone And it is given locally, its effect on the body as a whole is very small and does not lead to any side effects, God willing.
In difficult cases, and after trying the treatment by the previous methods, we resort to the surgical solution as the last method, and in this process that is often performed by means of endoscopy, we cut a part of the plantar tendon and remove the bony protrusion from the bottom of the heel bone, and often with this healing, God willing.
Note that there are other similar cases and symptoms of plantar tendinitis. We cannot be exposed here to all of them. May God grant you success and God knows best.
