In the Patient Safety Seminar sponsored by Dr. Abdul Ilah Al-Hawsawi, Director General of the Saudi Patient Safety Center, the Bagedo General Hospital and Dr. Irfan General are organizing the Patient Safety Day activities on Thursday morning, March 14, 2019 in the hospital’s Nabil Zamzami Hall.Dr. Saba Al-Absi, Director of Quality and Academic Affairs at the hospital, Dr. Azza Al-Khattab, Head of the Infection Control Department, and from the Saudi Patient Safety Center in Riyadh, and Dr. Muhammad Halawani and Dr. Abeer Muhanna from the Patient Safety Center in Riyadh, Ms. Amita More, and Ms. Fadwa the Minister participated in it. And Mr. Youssef Hijazin,
We met with Dr. Abdul Elah Al-Hawsawi, Director General of the Saudi Patient Safety Center, to unveil the reason for holding a Patient Safety Day symposium.
With our inquiries about the reason for holding a patient safety symposium, and who would benefit from it, he said:
At the beginning, the doctor thanked Irfan Hospital for the kind invitation and for the idea of establishing a patient safety day. Patient safety is one of the priorities of the National Transformation Program in the health sector.
The Saudi Patient Safety Center was established two years ago on March 19, 2017 AD and has a board of directors headed by the Minister of Health and has representation from all sectors from the Ministry of Health, King Faisal Specialist Hospital, the military health sector, the National Guard and the private sector, in addition to all the organizers of the Sabahi service, the health facilities center, and the Medical and Drug Authority. And the Saudi Specializations Authority, the Cooperative Health Insurance Council and the Red Crescent, as well as a community representative through the Consumer Protection Association.
The center has been assigned and honored to be the director general of the center, and we hope through the three axes, organizers, service providers, the Ministry of Health and the rest of the authorities, and the third part is through society, and we work through service providers, the private and university sector, guards and health with the principle of minimizing harm and empowering patients and informing them of their rights as a preventive principle before attending Patient of health care. I mean, I knew my rights before the treatment to minimize the damage.
The center is one of the initiatives of the National Transformation Program to support patient safety, and our goal is to provide safe health care for all, and the center’s message is to reduce harm to zero, which is the title of the symposium ... reaching zero harm, and damage is a more comprehensive concept of mistakes, whether it is a mistake or complications is harm, and the Messenger, peace be upon him, said There is no harm or harm, and this is one of the basics of our religion, and God Almighty says in Surat Al-Ma’idah (and whoever revives it is as if he revives all people). This is an explanation of the concept of quality.
Our question was supposed to be in every hospital a consulting team responsible for following up the mistakes that occur in his hospital, monitoring them and submitting them to health affairs to set up workshops in this way to avoid such errors.
He answered: The kingdom is accredited from one hospital to another, with 470 governmental and private hospitals. It varies with that. There are hospitals that have a patient safety coordinator or a patient safety specialist and there is a quality specialist responsible for these matters: We have a desire to learn from other sectors that have a high safety rate, such as the aviation sector, which has a strong safety department and its work is activated, and to complete the episode starting from reporting any major or minor events. Any damage that occurs must be reported, and we seek through the national system for reporting Medical errors and learning (your voice) The notification within hospitals is linked to a national system at the level of the Kingdom in general so that the lessons learned from mistakes in Irfan and others can be used in all other sectors to learn and this is what we seek to take lessons learned for the government and private sector and the method of learning from the subject Monitoring and reporting is very important, and our concern is more about what the event is and why it happened than who caused the event.
We also met Dr. Azza Khattab, Director of Infection Control at Dr. Irfan Hospital, who gave a lecture (Patient safety related to examination through sonar or television radiation) and about her lecture today, she said:
Today''s lecture was to prevent the harm of the television radiological examination (sonar), which has a wide reputation in diagnostics in the world, but there is a certain type of sonar that may harm the patient if the sonar device is not handled in an appropriate manner after the examination, namely the examination that is used Vaginal examination in gynecology clinics or examination through the esophagus when a part of the sonar device enters the patient''s body, because it is not just a superficial examination on the skin.
In her question, is the method used to sterilize and disinfect the ultrasound not enough?
Answer: The method of sterilization or disinfection used in most hospitals worldwide and not in Irfan Hospital or Saudi Arabia has become a field of research now and there is new in this field that there is a certain method of examination and treatment must be used with this device with each patient to prevent the transmission of infection to the new patient this method It is not generalized in most Arab countries, but it is generalized in America and Europe, and they are working on research, because disinfecting or sterilizing the device by current methods in the Arab community can lead to a problem, But the proposal and the existing one that can be implemented protects people from this problem, a method called (disinfection with the highest possible disinfection rates) and it is through a chemical substance present in our hospitals all of us and easy to obtain, but how do we deliver it to the sonar device in its place because the device is sensitive tomorrow, expensive and difficult to connect it to a place to place and remove it and even This small part is difficult to remove.
And about today''s program, she stated: Irfan Hospital, we made an experiment for the first time for this high-quality disinfection in the manner approved by European and American countries globally, so that we do it without damaging the device and not transfer it from a position and thus we preserved the patient’s safety and preserved the sensitive device and made the examination in a safe manner for all patients.
And since we do not have statistics in the Kingdom about the occurrence of these problems from this device, but those who made checks on the device abroad found these problems abroad. The goal of our program is to be the first to protect patients from problems with this device.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Azza Khattab thanked the Press Club Network, Sada Al-Hijaz newspaper, and the newspapers that sponsored this event for contributing to the transmission of this information to readers and society.
