The Chair and the Research Excellence Center for Applied Prophetic Medicine at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah organized, at the beginning of this week (16 Ramadan - 9 May) a webinar (or the so-called “webinar”) entitled “How to raise immunity in the time of Covid-19 »In it, a number of scientists from the same center and prestigious international research centers from America and Malaysia presented studies conducted on a number of natural fruits that have been proven effective in raising the immunity of humans in addition to other effects that raise the quality of life of patients.

A number of scholars and researchers from King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Albany College of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences in America and Sains University in Malaysia participated in the webinar, and about two thousand participants from university professors, health workers and community members also interacted with it to register and follow up. The symposium was accredited with educational hours by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.

Dates

Professor Suad Khalil Al-Jaouni, consultant hematology, hematology and pediatric oncology, the supervisor and chairperson of the Research Center of Excellence for Applied Prophetic Medicine and Chair of the Higher Advisory Committee of the symposium spoke about impressive facts about the immune system. She indicated that the immune system is negatively affected by psychological pressures, such as sadness, anxiety, fear, disturbed sleep, laziness, lack of movement, fatigue, and the use of some medicines, smoking and drugs. She also touched on a group of foods that raise immunity, the most important of which is dates that were the only food for many countries throughout history, as they are an ideal food of high quality.

Dates contain a large number of important minerals such as iron, copper, sulfur, manganese, silicon, chlorine, niacin, sodium, calcium, and magnesium, in addition to high amounts of fiber. According to a recent study published last year in 2019 in the journal (Current drug Discovery Technologies, 2019. 16.2 10), Ajwa, in particular “Ajwa Al-Alya,” is a complete food and is considered anti-cancer, antioxidant, toxin and increases fertility. According to another study published in (African Journal of Biotechnology vol 11. no 2), in addition to that dates are antioxidant, it has also been shown to reduce bacterial infections, and that Al-Madinah ajwa eliminates pseudomonas, which is usually not treatable with antibiotics.

In a clinical study that lasted more than 12 years, its results were finally published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal (Integrative Cancer Therapies, 2019), conducted in the Pediatric Oncology Unit at the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University. There was a decrease in the percentage of hospitalization for patients suffering from immunodeficiency, infections and high fever in the group that took the meal (5 times per year) compared to the group that did not take the meal (17 times per year), and the infection rate in the first group decreased (1.1%). ) Compared to the second group (5.1%). The death rate also decreased among Ajwa users compared to others, during the twelve years of the study, with a decrease in exposure to treatment complications, a higher quality of life, and an increase in the recovery rate.

In Al-Rutbah, the percentage of water reaches 52 percent, carbohydrates reach 27 percent, and the percentage of calories is low and the percentage of fiber and folic acid is high. Thus, the wet body replaces the body with more fluids and avoids thirst when consumed during the breakfast and the pre-dawn meals, unlike dates in which the percentage of water decreases to 12 percent and the percentage of carbohydrates increases to 57 percent, as well as calories, while the percentage of fiber and folic acid decreases.

Honey and immunity

Why is honey considered a good immune booster? Professor Nur Hayati Osman, President of the International Academy of Pathology at the University of Sains Malaysia, and winner of the Sheikh Zayed Prize for Prophetic Medicine for the year 2019 - explained that honey is a strong immune booster, especially now in the Corona pandemic because it is a food that contains basic nutrients rich in water, sugar (fructose, glucose, Sucrose), proteins and amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Among the important vitamins are thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine (B6) and ascorbic acid (C). Among the most important minerals are calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, sodium and zinc. Honey is considered one of the strongest antioxidants, as it is highly active because it contains phenol, flavonol, anthocyanidinsone isoflavones, pinocimprin, chrysin, galangin, luteolin, quercetin, kymphrol and apigenin.

In terms of consuming honey every day, she points to a study published in the journal (Medicinal Food 6: 135-40), in which ten people underwent a systematic diet in addition to 1.2 grams of honey - per kilogram of body weight per day for two weeks. Then, blood samples taken from them showed the following: an increase in vitamin C by 47 percent, an increase of beta-carotene by 3 percent, an increase of uric acid by 12 percent, an increase in serum copper by 33 percent, an increase in serum iron by 20 percent, Decreased ferritin by 11%, increased monocytes by 50%, decreased serum immunoglobulin by 34%.

How does honey boost immunity? Professor Nour Hayati answers that the scientific evidence is clearing and increasing its spread day after day, stressing that honey is a natural immune tonic, a natural anti-inflammatory agent, and a natural antibiotic for microbes, if taken by 20 grams [one tablespoon twice a day].

First: Honey is a natural immune booster. Numerous scientific evidence proves that honey is a natural immune booster:

Induces antibody production during primary and secondary immune responses against thymus-dependent and independent antigens of the thymus gland in mice injected with sheep red blood cells and E-coli antigens.

Consumption of 80 grams of natural honey per day for 21 days showed that the level of prostaglandin compared to normal people was higher in AIDS patients.

Eating honey helps increase antibody production in primary and secondary immune responses.

Honey stimulates inflammatory cytokine production from monocytes, the cytokine.

Manuka honey, pastures and jelly bushes greatly increase the release of immune cells when compared to untreated cells treated with artificial honey (P-0.001).

Manuka honey 5.8 (KDI) stimulates cytokine production by immune cells.

Second: Honey is a natural anti-inflammatory agent

Infants with diaper dermatitis improved significantly after topical application of a mixture containing honey, olive oil and beeswax after 7 days.

Honey provides great relief from cough symptoms in children with an upper respiratory infection.

Honey has proven effective in managing supplementary dermatitis and psoriasis

The topical application of natural honey is a simple and cost-effective treatment for radiation mucosal carcinoma.

Eight out of 10 dermatitis patients and five out of eight psoriasis patients showed significant improvement after two weeks on the complementary honey ointment.

A case report of a patient who had had chronic corrective bullous epidermolysis for 20 years who was cured with a honey-infused dressing at 15 weeks after the failure of dressings and traditional creams.

Local use of raw honey on infected wounds reduced signs of severe infection.

Tolang Honey protects the keratinocytes from infections caused by UV rays and DNA damage.

Third: Honey is a natural antimicrobial. The germ mechanism works through disruption of the cell-division machinery. It has been shown that:

Honey is also effective against negative coagulant staphylococcus.

The antimicrobial activity of honey is stronger in an acidic environment than in a neutral or alkaline environment.

When honey is used with the antibiotic gentamycin, it boosts the anti-Staphylococcus aureus activity by 22%.

When honey is added to the culture medium, the appearance of microbial growth on the culture plates is delayed.

Fungi are not grown in culture media containing 10% and 20% honey.

Honey is effective in killing hard bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection.

Honey has also been shown to have antiviral properties

On patients suffering from recurrent herpes, honey was shown to be better than acyclovir treatment. Two cases of oral herpes and one case of genital herpes were completely treated with honey while the treatment with acyclovir did not work, and the topical application of honey for honey gave 30 - 40% better results than acyclovir for treating the simple recurring herpes lesions.

Using kidney cell cultures for rubella-infected monkeys, honey had good activity against rubella.

Honey for severe cough in children.

Anti-HIV activity of eight types of Iranian honey produced from one type of flower.
