disease with "Covid 19"
In a press conference held in the conference room of the "First Center for Medical Specializations", Dr. Dean Khaled Abdel Hamid, a consultant dentist at the University of London and head of the Anglo-American Saudi Medical Association, warned of the danger of the spread of the Corona virus (Covid-19) among Arab citizens. He said that through his direct contact with a number of researchers in London and workers in Weihan County in China and others in the Iranian city of Qom and South Korea, as well as southern Italy, which are the areas that are the epicenter for the spread of this dangerous virus, noting that people with untreated chronic gingivitis are More susceptible to infection with "Covid-19" virus, and they are also the most vulnerable to severe pneumonia due to this virus, and they are most likely to die.
The "Covid-19" virus is from the coronavirus family that includes SARS (respiratory syndrome) and the March virus (Middle East respiratory syndrome), but it is considered the most dangerous after the Spanish flu virus in 1920, which infected more than twenty million people in a short period.
Dr. Amid indicated that the reason for its rapid spread in both China and Iran is the high incidence of chronic uncontrolled gum disease in both China and Iran, as chronic gingivitis causes the jawbone to melt between the teeth, which generates deep pockets that are a source of millions of germs in These pockets, which in turn change a person''s immunity, make them more likely to develop bronchitis.
These pockets are fertile grounds for the "Covid-19" virus, to move from them to the lungs to be severe infection and can be fatal as these viruses enter the salivary glands so that the infected person becomes a dangerous source of infecting others.
Dr. Amid stressed the need to pay attention to the fact that 40 to 60 percent of Arab citizens suffer from chronic and uncontrolled gingivitis, which may expose the Arab world to the risk of this deadly epidemic.
