A step forward !!

In March this year, the Australian New Zealand College of Anesthesiology celebrated its twentieth year of founding, which is roughly the same age as the Saudi Anesthesia and Intensive Care Program, which was established in the late 1990s, and the difference between a program and a large college.

The gap between a program and a college is what needs to be bridged, which will achieve the goal of graduating competent and safe anesthesiologists.

Currently, the Saudi Anesthesia Program, like other specialized programs, relies on specialized but part-time consultants to undertake the burdens of supervising training, organizing and preparing for exams. And that is through a scientific council and committees chaired by and with the participation of members of the scientific council and others from outside the council, but also those who are part-time.

This matter needs to be changed with the intention of development, which cannot be achieved as long as the program remains in this state of financial and administrative connection with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, which operates on several fronts, including those related to training and others that are not related to training or scientific programs.

As for the unwanted development, it is development that is concerned with names, titles or titles, preserving the administrative and financial situation and scientific supervision as it is, such as establishing another body within the womb of the mother body.

If we had spread this idea of specialized colleges to all specialized medical programs affiliated with the authority until now, we would have independent, homemade but high-quality medical training programs that mean training doctors from the sons and daughters of our dear country by specialized supervisors who are devoted to the process of supervising training and education, Even for limited periods or years, and others who are part-time, whose practical or scientific circumstances do not allow them to devote themselves to the expertise necessary for the strength and quality of the program, provided that this is accompanied by physical and administrative independence necessary to complete the training and education process.

Rather, these programs will extend to include training resident doctors who wish to work for us and live with us for many years. This will achieve a distinct medical (competence) that serves our patients and a medical (competence) that reduces the numerical deficit that occurs in our medical centers.

The idea of establishing specialized and independent medical colleges to graduate consultants in various medical branches is the same idea that made the anesthesia program in Australia and New Zealand a program with a great international reputation that went beyond the issue of graduating qualified doctors until it became one of the important international references in the training and education process itself and the matters that follow from the exams. In a short period of time, compared to other global programs that preceded it by decades.

The proposal is to establish Saudi Royal Medical Colleges, specialized and independent, concerned with training, education, and setting standards for the profession. It helps health service bodies such as the Ministry of Health with specialized and highly trained medical forces, and contributes to the development of health systems in order to rise to the level of medical centers and to participate in providing high-quality and safe medical service.
