medical face mask

Professor Khalid bin Hassan Al-Maliki, Professor of Voice and Speech Medicine, College of Medicine and Supervisor of the Chair of Research in Voice, Swallowing and Speech Diseases at King Saud University obtained a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office under the title "Face Muzzle System".

While face masks are suitable for the purpose of reducing the entry and exit of germs through them, commercially available face masks do not provide the ability to dispense medicine to the wearer to help alleviate the symptoms of some diseases such as colds, so there is a need for a new and improved face mask system to effectively distribute the drug to the user. .

This system consists of a face mask that is used to give medicine or fragrant smells to the user through inhalation, and this medicinal mask may help in treating some cold and flu symptoms such as coughing and a runny or stuffy nose, and the drug is given to the user by:

1- A “removable cap” impregnated with medicine. This medicine cap is attached to the outer surface of the face mask. If the medicine inside the medical cap begins to lose its level of medical efficacy, the user removes the medicine cap from the face mask and attaches a new medical cap to continue the treatment by inhalation.

2- "Strips" attached to the outer surface of the face mask, and more than one drug can be used on these drug strips for the same face mask.

The face muzzle system has two shapes: rectangular and bowl-shaped, and has several sizes, for adults and children, and the face muzzle system can be used:

a. While sleeping, to benefit from inhaling the medication during the night (night form).

B. During the day, a transparent plastic piece can be attached to the upper part of the face mask, in order to keep the medicine from contacting the eye if the medicine used is irritating to it (the daytime model).

This invention is one of the achievements of the Chair of Research on Voice and Swallowing Diseases at King Saud University.
