What are the types of vaginal infections?
Fungal infection
This is the most common type of vaginal infection caused by the very common Candida fungus. Experts believe that although yeast infections can be caused by many types of fungi, Candida is the most common of them all. Doctors say that Candida fungi are present in small amounts in everyone''s body and cause no harm, but when they start to grow, they take the form of a yeast infection. This type of fungus is often exacerbated by the hormonal change that pregnancy, birth control pills, or menstruation may follow. Additionally, people with diabetes or those with HIV-like infections are also at risk of developing a yeast infection.
Yeast infection usually causes a white, thick, and sticky discharge from the vagina, in addition to frequent itching or redness in the vagina and is also a sign of a yeast infection.
Bacterial vaginosis
Along with fungi like Candida, many types of bacteria live in our bodies, especially in the vagina. You must have heard that there are many types of good bacteria in our bodies that are very important to our health. One of these good bacteria is lactobacilli, which are important for vaginal health. When the number of these bacteria in the vagina is low, they cause bacterial vaginosis. This problem is not only due to a decrease in the number of lactobacilli, but also due to an increase in bacteria called Gardnerella.
With this type of infection, a woman can often get a white or clear discharge from the vagina. Additionally, the vagina can cause a fish-like odor, especially during sex.
Trichomoniasis
It is the third most common vaginal infection after the yeast infection and bacterial vaginosis most often found in women. Also known as Trichomonas vaginitis, this infection is very different from other infections. This infection is caused by sexual intercourse, that is, physical relationships. This infection is caused by a parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis which is often transmitted from your partner to your body during sex.
When these infections occur, women may feel burning, swelling, and redness in the vulva. Additionally, vaginal discharge is also common to yellow or greenish. Many women may also feel intense pain during urination.
Chlamydia
Chlamydia is also a sexually transmitted infection that can cause inflammation of the vagina. Some women develop a vaginal discharge during this infection and some do not. If this infection spreads outside the vagina to the cervix, some women may experience bleeding after their period and even after sex.
Doctors advise women over the age of 26 to have a chlamydia test once a year so that it can be detected in time and not take the form of any major problem. It is important to do this because it often starts without any signs or symptoms, but later on it can do a lot of damage to your fertility.
Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is also a sexually transmitted disease in which there are usually no significant signs or signs at first. However, many times you may feel pain while urinating. Apart from this, one can feel the vaginal discharge and pain during sex. Doctors say her systems start appearing within 10 days of infection. This is usually caused by unprotected sex with a previously infected human.
Doctors believe that people with gonorrhea often also have chlamydia, so they are often treated simultaneously and both are treated to the same degree.
Non-infectious vaginitis
It wouldn''t be right to describe this condition as an infection, rather, it is a type of sensitivity or reaction that can cause a lot of discomfort in the vaginal area. These problems occur when the skin of the vagina becomes sensitive to scented pads, scented soaps, or fabric softeners, and the irritation begins as soon as you touch them. Stop using it immediately as soon as you realize that you are having a problem with a specific product or component.
