Please give us a brief about the association?

The Saudi Scientific Society for Vascular Surgery is one of the specialized societies hosted by the College of Medicine at King Abdulaziz University to serve this rare and important specialty. It was established six years ago and is honorably presided over by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Aseer, and its current board of directors consists of each of :

His Excellency Dr. Musaed Al-Salman, Dean of the College of Medicine at King Saud University as Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, in addition to Prof. Dr. Khaled Al Ibrahim from King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Muhammad Al-Omran, Dr. Badr Al-Jabri from King Saud University, and Dr. / Abdullah Al-Wahbi from King Saud University Bin Abdulaziz for Health Sciences, and it has two branches: in the Riyadh region, headed by His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Al-Omran, and a branch in Al-Khobar headed by Dr. Yahya Ashqan, and the number of its working members is more than (50) members, while the number reaches (150) members of all groups. To date, the Society has held (5) scientific forums within the Kingdom (2) in Jeddah, and (3) in Riyadh .. In addition to its participation with the Gulf Vascular Society in (4) conferences in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Doha, and an international conference organized by the hospital Al Askari in Dhahran.

Does the association have international participation?

Yes, the association represented by its board members and its working members participate in all international conferences, including its participation in regional conferences such as vascular conferences in Jordan and Egypt this year, in addition to participation in European, American and Asian conferences, and some members of the association’s boards also participate in editorial boards Many refereed scientific journals such as the Asian blogs in vascular diseases, and the association is keen to invite prominent scientists in its field of specialization from all over the world and its various continents in its local and Gulf conferences, including inviting heads of vascular surgery departments and heads of international societies to attend their conferences.

What about the association’s contributions in the field of research?

The members of the board of directors of the association supervise two scientific chairs in two prestigious universities in our country, namely, King Saud University and King Abdulaziz University, where members of the Board of Directors from King Saud University oversee the peripheral vascular research chair, while the chairman of the Society’s Board of Directors oversees the diabetic foot research chair.

What are the most prominent achievements of the association?

Among the most prominent achievements of the association is the acceptance of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz for its honorary presidency and his continuous support for it, and one of its most prominent achievements is the support of King Abdulaziz University and King Saud University for its activities by supporting the holding of scientific conferences, particularly the global symposium that is held every two years in Rehab. King Saud University, which last hosted two Nobel Prize winners in the field of medicine, to speak to the members of the association. The society also cooperates with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties in evaluating consultants working in vascular surgery, in addition to providing advice to the relevant authorities.

Does the association cooperate with other local or regional associations?

One of the most important concerns of the association is the presence and attendance in all conferences related to vascular diseases, and by that it seeks to integrate with the rest of the scientific societies for the benefit of patients, as the patient does not usually come to the doctor and he is marked on his forehead as a patient with one of the vascular diseases, and since Blood vessels spread throughout the body, so it is natural for their diseases to interfere with the organs and extremities that feed them, including, but not limited to, heart disease, strokes, limb clots, diabetes patients, rheumatic diseases, and patients with accidents and injuries, so the association is keen to attend and participate in order to educate colleagues In other departments and specialties, with developments in the field of vascularization, particularly with regard to prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

What are the most important health problems that the association addresses to face?

I think that the most important health problem is the problem of diabetics and its various effects on the organs and extremities, as this traumatic disease is related to peripheral arterial diseases, particularly the arteries of the legs and feet, as well as the brain, and from here the members of the association work to cooperate with their colleagues in the relevant disciplines for the treatment of diabetic foot in order to integrate The service is due to the intertwining and multiplicity of factors that lead to the problem of diabetic foot. The association also seeks to play a greater role in the interventional treatment of vascular diseases in cooperation with colleagues in the specialties of radiology and cardiology in order to reach treatments that are less harmful to patients and through the use of therapeutic catheters and balloons expanded for arteries, stents, etc. .

Some members of the association are also looking into the fields of using unprecedented and sophisticated methods such as innovations and inventions and the use of stem cells.

What posts are you planning to do in the future?

The Association has just finished participating in the fourth conference of the Gulf Vascular Society in Dubai, which was held in cooperation with our association, and I will participate in the fifth conference of the World Vascular Society, upon the generous invitation of this association as a professor speaking on vascular diseases and diabetes patients, which will be held next October in Milan. In Italy, which is a personal honor for the Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Society, I will also participate in the International Conference of the Federation of Vascular Diseases (Africa Branch) next June in Cairo. I will also participate in the Fifth International Conference on Diabetic Foot with three research papers within the research of the Diabetic Foot Chair, which is an international conference that holds (4) years in the Netherlands and attended by those interested in this issue from around the world, and these are examples of the participation of members in the association.

Are you satisfied with the performance of the association?

Yes, despite the small size of the association, its accomplishments far exceed the size of its potentials, thanks to God’s determination and perseverance of its members and their desire to exert more effort towards supporting the members of the association and raising their level through intensive and continuous scientific and research programs, just as the association is unlike many others. Other associations have succeeded in forming a broad base of participation for all workers in the field of vascular surgery in all regions of the Kingdom, and thanks to God they have also succeeded in forming an alliance with the Gulf Vascular Society, in which more than (20) members of its members participate permanently in all the society''''s forums Saudi Arabia, as all of us support our Gulf brothers in all their scientific activities, and our association has also succeeded in cooperating with most vascular surgery societies in the rest of the Arab country, such as Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Tunisia, but I do not exaggerate if I say that the reputation of our association has reached all over the world. From Sydney, Seoul and Tokyo in the east to Europe, Canada and America in the west, thanks to all the Saudi and Gulf members for their wonderful efforts.

What do you wish for the association?

As the president of this association over the past six years, I hope that the system of Saudi scientific societies will be changed so that the president is changed every two to four years, and that the choice is not limited to one party, and thus we guarantee broadening the base of participation and giving everyone the opportunity to present what they have, and I nominate my brother Prof. Dr. / Assistant Salman for the coming period was one of the most important supporters and founder of this specialty locally and internationally.

last word...
