The Claimants By changing their "gender", psychiatric patients
He explained to "Al-Eqtisadiah" the famous Saudi surgeon, Professor Yasser Saleh Jamal, head of the pediatric surgery unit and a professor at the Faculty of Medicine at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah and director of the Center for Identification and Correction of Sex at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, that he received a small number of requests for sex reassignment, explaining that he is dealing with these cases being considered mental illness, and they are convinced of the futility of conducting such operations and the bad results that result from this change, with the clarification that it is not permissible to perform such operations legally and that they change the creation of God and this is the most important point, They confirmed that he had performed more than 500 surgeries to correct sex in 30 years.
Dr. Yasser Jamal indicated that large numbers of patients are still on the waiting list, some of them to complete the final stages of sex correction operations, and others are still being examined to determine the sex and then perform the appropriate operations to correct them in their real sex, which was approved based on the final examinations, indicating To the absence of any person presenting and rejecting his request, Except in the case of the applicant requesting a change of sex, which are cases that are not legally permissible to do, and the center does not perform them. Dr. Yasser explained the difference between sexual correction operations and conversion surgeries, saying: “The difference is big between sex correction and sex reassignment operations. Sex correction operations are legally permissible procedures, and the problem is that a person has a defect in the reproductive system or physical structure so that he appears female while he is in The truth is male, and in this case corrective surgery is performed to the real sex, which is male, and vice versa, the person may be female and have a defect in the reproductive system and appear as a male, and corrective surgery is performed to the real sex, which is the female, Here it becomes clear that sex correction operations are correction from the wrong position to the correct one, and it is permissible as we mentioned and by legal consensus from the jurisprudential councils, and I was the first to originate the term sex correction for patients with mixed sex determination.
A meeting on the use of the term gender correction and not using the word sex change or gender change because gender correction is the appropriate term for the provisions of Islamic law for those who have a problem in determining the sex, which was previously known as the problematic intersex and the true intersex, I also called these patients mixed disease in determining sex rather than hermaphroditism, and it is worth noting that specialists in the West have converted to the same terms and our views on the ethics of medical practice in treating these patients that are in accordance with Islamic law.
He continued: "Let me here in this regard clarify the vague difference for many people between the processes of correction and change. Sex correction operations are carried out in the university hospital according to the fatwas of the religious authorities in Saudi Arabia. Correcting sex means correcting a wrong situation to another healthy one. As for changing the sex and what is legally rejected is a change from A healthy situation into a wrong one and it includes a change in God’s creation and a change in the legal rulings of marriage, inheritance and ritual acts that lead to an increase in psychological suffering and great social problems, and an explanation for the change of sex that a person, male or female, physically possesses all the elements of his sex, except that he feels that he is a victim of the curse, as he is trapped in the body Contrary to his gender and asks to surgically change his sex and reproductive organs to the opposite sex, corresponding to his feeling and contrary to his physical structure, These surgeries are known as sex reassignment surgeries, and for example, a male person who has fully intact reproductive organs has two testes and male chromosons XY and has a 100 percent intact male external reproductive system. To a female, and the surgery that is performed for him includes the removal of the penis and testicles and gives female hormones, and thus the person is an artificial female and may be suitable for marital practice but does not become pregnant because she does not have a womb or ovaries.
He went on to say: "On the other hand, she may be a fully feminine female with XX female chromosomes and have ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes, vagina and external female reproductive system. If she marries a man, she would be able to conceive from him but she feels that she belongs to the world of masculinity and requires conversion to a male, and the surgery that is The procedure includes the removal of the uterus, tubes, ovaries, vagina and breasts, and the formation of a skin prosthesis with the use of a penis-like device inside it with implantation of prosthetic testicles made of plastic material and giving the person male hormones, Thus, a person is transformed into a male in shape, but does not have a sensitive genital, and he cannot fertilize a female, as he does not have testicles, this is the metamorphosis and the change of God’s creation in changing the man into a woman who does not give birth and the woman into a man who does not give birth. The survival of mankind for his worship As for this change of sex and is rejected by law, it is a change from a sound situation to a sinful one, which includes a change in the creation of God and a change in the legal rulings of marriage, inheritance and worship, and leads to an increase in psychological suffering and great social problems.
Dr. Yasser explained that about 60 per cent of those who undergo sex reassignment surgery commit suicide because they cannot coexist with society after the change, and that nearly 50 per cent of transgender people die before reaching the age of thirty, either through suicide, drugs, or injury. AIDS, as well as the aggressive behaviors that they generate against the background of society''s rejection of them. It is noteworthy that a government study confirmed that it grants directors of health affairs the authority to approve cases of sexual correction through governmental committees, and on this issue he told Al-Eqtisadiah, Dr. Sami Badawood, Director of Health Affairs in Jeddah: “The generalization was made regarding this matter so that there would be a group of consultants specialized in this field to decide to approve the sexual correction operations for the case that submitted the application, and it is not possible to allow one doctor to decide to approve any case, but rather They should be about three doctors.
