on electronics
Professor and consultant of family and community medicine, Professor Tawfiq Ahmed Khoja, warned of the times when it is supposed to be allowed to sit in front of the screen, whether television or electronic devices, based on the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Children''s Academy Recommendation
He stated that the Academy recommended that children (less than two years old) be prevented from using electronic devices and sitting in front of screens completely, and children at the age of two years are allowed to sit for some time with a parent in front of screens, and in the age period from (2 to 5 years) the children’s sitting period should not exceed in front of a screen or electronic devices for an hour a day, with adults to help them understand what they are seeing.
Two hours a day is enough
He added that in the age group (6 to 18 years), parents must set a specific time and limit, not to exceed two hours per day, while it is not recommended to use it for more than two hours per day for those over 18 years old.
He said that children''s adherence to the hours of using electronic devices or watching television protects them from negative repercussions, such as lack of healthy sleep hours, poor educational attainment, acquiring aggressive habits from violent games, and obesity, as most children eat fast food and fatty foods while sitting at the screen.
children overweight
Professor Khoja concluded by saying that a report presented by doctors at the Pediatrics Conference in San Diego revealed that watching television programs for one hour a day increases the likelihood of a child gaining weight under 7 by 50%, and researchers stressed addressing the problem of obesity by reducing the time children spend In front of the TV, no more than an hour a day.
