of depression rates among Saudis due to Corona

Dr. Ahmed bin Nayef Al-Hadi, a consultant in medicine and psychiatry, explained that the latest studies found that 21% of Saudi society suffered from symptoms of depression during the period of home quarantine due to Corona.

The psychological consultant said, during his hosting of the "Ya Hala" program broadcast on "Rotana Khalihia", that he and a research team from King Saud University and Al-Jouf University conducted two studies during the period of home quarantine, one on Saudi society and the other on university students.

Al-Hadi added that before Corona, there was a study within the National Mental Health Survey, which found that the percentage of depression in Saudi society was only 6 percent, meaning that it increased due to Corona by 15 percent.

Regarding the students, the psychological consultant stated that the result of the study was shocking. The percentage of depression among them reached 49 percent, and more shocking is that 22 percent of them thought of ending their lives “suicide.”

Al-Hadi pointed out that the community''s awareness of the importance of treating depression and bipolar disorder is better than before, but it is still not enough so far, and some suffer without realizing that they have these diseases.
