“black fungus” disease, and the reason for its appearance in people with “Corona”

Al-Marsad newspaper: Dr. Saleh Al-Damas, a consultant in chest diseases and lung transplantation, revealed today, Sunday, that “black fungus” is not a new disease It is one of the fungal diseases known for decades, but the issue has taken on more than its size.

Fungi are found in nature

Al-Damas said in an interview with the “Ain Al-Khamsah” program on the “Al-Ikhbaria” channel: “Fungi are present in nature, soil and in our bodies, and they infect humans with disease when immunity decreases.”

Long-term immunosuppressive drugs

He emphasized that ("black fungus") we have seen for many years in patients who take chemotherapy drugs to treat tumors, then their immunity is suppressed, and we see it in organ transplant patients due to the abuse of long-term immune drugs.

low immunity

Al-Damas pointed out that “what we are currently seeing in Corona patients with infection with this fungus is the result of the decrease in immunity associated with Corona infection, and perhaps the result of the drugs used to treat corona.”

The consultant explained that “some drugs used to treat corona, such as anti-inflammatories, suppress the immune system and make it vulnerable to infection with these fungi in the body or the surrounding environment.”

lead to death

Al-Damas concluded by emphasizing that “(the black fungus) affects anyone who has a decrease in immunity, and it may lead to severe cases of inflammation, especially in the lungs and sinuses, and may lead to death if the immunity does not improve.”
