.. Consultant clarifies

Dr. Khaled Bawaked, a consultant in family and community medicine in Jeddah Health, warned against excessive fumigation of the house with granules of Arabic frankincense on the grounds that it kills viruses.

Bawaked explained to “The Citizen” that there are no scientific studies confirming the relationship of Arabic frankincense to killing viruses.

He pointed out that this belief has been prevalent among Arab societies since ancient times, and it is a talk that is renewed and spread from time to time, but in fact there are no scientific studies linking the two sides.

And he indicated that the excessive daily fumigation has repercussions on patients with asthma and chest allergies, as patients with asthma or other chronic chest diseases are allergic to incense, and this results in an increase in their breathing symptoms, which calls in case of provoking an asthma crisis to take the expanded spray for the people. Air conditioning next to the steam session, whether inside the house or heading to the nearest health center or hospital.

He stressed that incense produces gases that cause a constriction in the bronchioles of those people who are allergic to those gases, and this bad effect is not limited to gases only, but also to the dust produced by the coal itself.
