reduce cancerous diseases

At a time when the Gulf celebrates Cancer Awareness Week (1-7) February, the health expert and professor of public health, family and community medicine, Professor Tawfiq Ahmed Khoja, confirmed,

Early detection and health awareness among the members of the communities are two guarantees, God willing, to reduce the spread of cancerous diseases.

He said that cancer control and prevention programs are one of the important Gulf trends for most modern health systems, given that this group of diseases has a social and human dimension and a large health and economic burden, adding that cancer currently represents a global public health problem, due to the growing incidence among individuals and societies. The causes and types of cancer vary between different regions of the world, so cancer is a very serious health problem that affects developed and developing countries alike. From 14 million cases in 2001 to 19.3 million cases in 2020 globally, with an expected increase in the number of new cases in 2040 to 27.5 million cases globally, and this increase is primarily due to lifestyle changes.

He continued: The GCC countries used to revive the joint Gulf Cancer Awareness Week, in an effort to shed light on this deadly disease, and try to confront and overcome it.

And because it coincides with the fourth of February, and on it is the World Cancer Day, in which the whole world celebrates cancer patients, the first week of February was chosen to be the joint Gulf week for awareness of cancer, and health sectors in all Gulf countries intensified their efforts in an attempt to reduce the incidence of this disease, and dedicate awareness of the importance of Follow a healthy diet and avoid obesity and smoking.
