Diabetes is one of the most prevalent diseases, and it is widespread in the Arab world in all its forms. Let’s learn about its most prominent symptoms in this article.
Diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases, resulting from a deficiency in the secretion of the hormone insulin, or its failure to secrete it completely due to a malfunction in the pancreas, or the body’s failure to respond to the hormone properly, which leads to a lack of control of blood sugar levels.
Symptoms of diabetes
The symptoms of diabetes in both types are very similar, but some of them may be more distinct and different for a certain group than the other, and the most important symptoms of diabetes are as follows:
extreme hunger
thirst.
Frequent urination.
Weight loss.
Blurred vision.
Fatigue and asthenia.
Heal and heal wounds slowly.
Symptoms of the first type
The most common symptoms of type 1 diabetes are
feeling thirsty
extreme hunger
Frequent urination.
Bedwetting in children.
Blurred vision.
Infection with vaginal infections and fungi in females.
Fatigue and general weakness.
Weight loss and thinness.
Mood swings.
Symptoms of the second type
Symptoms of type 2 diabetes usually develop slowly, and sometimes it can be difficult for a diabetic to know that they have this type for years.
The most common symptoms of this type are the following
Excessive hunger: If the insulin hormone is not secreted in sufficient quantities in the body, which means that sugar is not transported to the cells of the body properly, which leads to the individual spending more energy and thus this leads to a feeling of extreme hunger.
Fatigue and weakness: the cells were deprived of glucose, and the body''s intense need for energy.
Excessive thirst: Excess sugar in the bloodstream leads to an imbalance of fluids on the cell surfaces, which leads to withdrawal of fluids within the tissues, thus increasing the feeling of thirst.
Frequent urination: especially at night, as a result of feeling thirsty and excessive drinking may increase the number of urination times.
Blurry vision: High levels of sugar in the bloodstream lead to withdrawal of fluid from the lens of the eye, which affects the strength of focus and vision.
Slow healing of ulcers and wounds: Some infected individuals suffer from slow healing from wounds and some other injuries.
Frequent infections: as a result of high blood sugar, which makes the environment suitable for microbes.
Bad breath: as a result of the production of ketone bodies, as the body tends to burn fat as an native source of energy when glucose is not available in the cells, and as a side result of the fat metabolism process, it produces ketone bodies that cause bad breath.
Weight loss: Although you eat high-calorie meals, the body cannot obtain energy with sufficient amount of glucose and therefore works to convert to glycogen and fat stores and use them to produce energy.
The presence of dark colored places in the body: such as Neck, or armpits, and may be evidence of insulin resistance in the body.
Symptoms of gestational diabetes and its treatment
Gestational diabetes usually only develops during pregnancy and has the same symptoms as diabetes. However, the high level of sugar in the blood of a pregnant woman may affect the health of the mother and the fetus, and put them at risk.
Symptoms of diabetes when pregnant
Increased risk of infections
Itching in the genitals
Increased risk of miscarriage and low birth weight babies.
Diagnosis
Usually, a high level of sugar in the blood or in the urine is the means by which diabetes is detected, and this is usually done with a number of laboratory tests that are performed by the patient, and if the results show an increase in sugar levels than normal ( 70-120 mg/dl), then the infection may be diagnosed.
Among the most important blood tests used for this purpose are the following
Random blood glucose check.
Checking the level of glucose in the blood while fasting.
Cumulative examination.
