The health expert, family and community medicine consultant, Professor Tawfiq Ahmed Khoja, advised all patients with chest allergies not to sit in the area of fans who use cold, colored smoke in sports stadiums while cheering and stimulating players on the field, indicating that such fumes may trigger asthma in the injured. Especially children, due to irritation of the respiratory system, and the reaction is through continuous coughing, which requires a quick steam session if the situation is in an unstable situation.
Khoja continued: «Among the things that happen because of the colored smoke is the lack of vision for a period of time that may be short if the space is open and large, and the smoke spreads all over, and the match referee may have to stop and disrupt play for minutes until the thick smoke fades away, and this has already happened many times. Several in our sports grounds, but if the hall space is small and not open, it is difficult for the smoke to dissipate quickly Because it spreads widely, leaving behind a large cloud covering the site.” He added, “Despite the beauty of the view of cold smoke, there are studies that have warned of the problems associated with it. Including a scientific study conducted by the European Football Association in cooperation with the European Football Fans Association, which revealed a serious danger from the use of fireworks in stadiums Due to the crowds being close to each other in the stands, and the lack of safe spaces to ignite fireworks, the aforementioned study indicated that the potential risk: burns, poisoning, eye and hearing damage, as well as panic in the event of crowds stampede due to any negative effects in the stands. Khoja concluded by saying: “Encouraging football teams is one of the beautiful and motivating things in sports stadiums, but when there are matters affecting health, this poses a threat to the safety of human health and environment. Therefore, it is better that the use of cold smoke be in a designated area at the top of the stadium stands and not in the middle of the crowd, as long as the effect of smoke reaches large areas, and thus we ensure, also, that those with asthma or chest sensitivity are not affected by the problem of smoke, which in its entirety may contain chemical elements. affecting human health.”
