The Secretary-General of the Arab Hospital Federation, Professor Tawfiq Ahmed Khoja, congratulated Dr. Hanan Balkhi on the occasion of her ion and appointment as Regional Director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, outperforming candidates for the position from various countries, as she received the highest percentage of votes from member states during the seventieth session of the Organization’s Regional Committee, Held in Cairo during the period from 9 to 12 October.
Khoja said that the ion of Dr. Hanan Balkhi confirms the strength and position of Saudi Arabia on the health map at the global level, and also confirms the position that Saudi women have reached with the support and empowerment of those in charge, may God protect them. He prayed to God to grant Dr. Hanan Balkhi success in her new mission, as she has previously assumed tasks, positions, and Including the WHO Assistant Director-General for Antimicrobial Resistance in Geneva since May 2019.
In addition, Dr. Hanan Balkhi will assume the duties of the position from the current Regional Director, Dr. Ahmed bin Salem Al-Mandhari, whose five-year term ends in January 2024.
