The Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic of the Northwest specializes in the treatment of disorders of the nose and sinuses, such as deviated septum repair (septoplasty), sinus infection treatments, endoscopic sinus surgery, nasal polyp removal and removal of nasal obstructions.
Deviated Septum Repair (Septoplasty)
The septum is the wall of cartilage and bone that separates the nostrils. If the septum is crooked, this deviation can cause nasal obstructions or frequent sinus infections. Septoplasty, or deviated septum repair, can be performed to straighten the septum. This surgical procedure may improve snoring problems or sleep apnea. A septoplasty may also be used to remove nasal polyps or correct other nasal cavity issues, such as chronic nose bleeds.
Sinusitis and Sinus Infection
Sinusitis is any inflammation or infection of the paranasal cavities of the scull that drain into the nasal passages. Sinusitis can result from a cold when the nasal cavity has increased mucus flow, or in cases of constant allergy attacks. If examined and properly cared for early on, sinusitis may be cured with decongestants, antibiotics, and other sinus relief treatments. Prolonged sinusitis may result in nasal polyps. Contact an Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic of the Northwest physician with any questions or concerns about irritation with your sinuses, and for problems with acute nose bleeds or sinus infection.
Nasal Polyp Removal
Nasal polyps may generally result from chronic inflammation of the sinuses or nasal passages. Medication may help relieve the symptoms of nasal polyps, such as reduced sense of smell, nasal congestion, or runny nose, however it rarely gets rid of nasal polyps. Polyp removal can be performed during endoscopic sinus surgery or septoplasty by your Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic of the Northwest physician.
Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
Endoscopic sinus surgery can effectively resolve sinusitis, a deviated septum, nasal polyps, other nasal obstructions and/or nasal tumors. The procedure uses an endoscope, a small telescope-like device, to peer inside the nasal cavities to allow safe, precise, minimally invasive surgery.
Balloon Sinuplasty
Balloon Sinuplasty™ technology is an FDA-approved, endoscopic, catheter-based system for patients suffering from sinusitis. The technology uses a small, flexible, sinus balloon catheter to open up blocked sinus passageways, restoring normal sinus drainage and function. When the sinus balloon is inflated, it gently restructures and widens the walls of the passageway while maintaining the integrity of the sinus lining. Pain and bleeding are minimal to nonexistent, and recovery is much quicker. Balloon Sinuplasty™ is not appropriate for all patients; please consult with your Ear Nose and Throat Clinic physician to see if you could benefit from this innovative procedure.
