Statistics in America have shown that drugs cost about $ 600 billion annually due to lost productivity and medical costs. And that 75% of the family violence incurred is due to alcoholism, and 25% of all deaths resulting from alcohol and cigarettes.
The substances used and leading to addiction are many. They range from simple anesthetics to the most effective and addictive drugs. They include: intoxicants like alcohol, where addiction to them globally reaches very high rates (more than 17% in Russia and 1.2% in Bahrain). Also, there are other drugs such as those that inhale, such as cocaine, petroleum compounds and glue, which are injected like heroin and morphine, which smoke like cannabis, or that are swallowed like hallucinogenic pills. There are also many substances that have a similar risk and fall within the habitual circle, including khat (which is considered stimulant for some) and tobacco, as all of them constitute a group of very dangerous drugs that cause the habit and dependence of the body on them after taking only a small number of doses, and the drug also has a very bad characteristic, That is, the body becomes accustomed and its vital functions depend on the anesthetic. When the anesthesia ratio in the body decreases, the usual person experiences many severe symptoms that may lead to his life, and we find him eager to take additional doses from him to remove that symptom.
The complications of addiction do not stop at the aforementioned, as there are many other disadvantages, including: economic problems, where drugs deduct a large part of a person’s income because of the habit and also because of the high prices. Statistics stated that a large percentage of American students spend more on alcohol than on books, food and entertainment.
Also, family problems resulting from the addiction of the father or mother cause the demolition of the family entity due to the high levels of family violence, increasing divorce rates and frequent mental disorders in children.
In addition to the fact that crime rates of all kinds, whether they are robbery, assault or even murder, increase among addicts as well as their children, in addition to high rates of accidents.
In this narration, it is not possible to forget about the health problems that addiction usually causes, as it has a direct impact on most of the body’s organs, the most important of which are the heart, brain, lungs and immune system, so the possibilities of infection with many types of diseases, including: hepatitis and AIDS, increase. , Skin diseases, pneumonia, sexual and reproductive diseases, and some other diseases that are likely to be transmitted to addicts such as tetanus and malaria, in addition to other bacterial diseases.
The neurological and psychological complications are numerous, as most types of drugs cause atrophy of the nervous system cells, which may lead to neurological and psychological diseases such as insanity and depression.
In conclusion, addiction is a form of indiscriminate war directed from the drug mafia to all the people of the world, especially developing countries. Therefore, we must fight this dangerous and alien scourge on our societies with all our strength, and our effective weapon to combat that disease is adherence to the true Islamic values and raising our children to Islam and its ideals, where two people, faith and addiction, do not come together.
