"Marfan".
Recently, I underwent surgery at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Jeddah governorate on a 28-year-old Saudi female patient with Marfan disease, which is a genetic disease. Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr. Iskandar bin Sulaiman Al-Quthmi explained that the patient was suffering from excruciating pain in the chest with a sharp increase in blood pressure, as she was transferred from a private hospital in Jeddah, and after examining her and conducting the necessary tests, it was found that she had an enlargement with a return of the aortic valve and an expansion and cracks of the artery. The ascending aorta with the left ventricle, the arch artery and the descending aorta in the chest until it empties into the abdomen. Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr. Al-Guthmi added that the patient had undergone surgery after discussing the extent of her risk with her and her family. With the help of the medical and surgical team in the cardiac department, the aortic heart valve was replaced and the ascending artery replaced with a tube with implantation of the main coronary arteries. The arch artery was also repaired and straightened. The operation took 7 hours and was completely successful. The patient was discharged from the hospital safely and enjoying complete health and wellness after only one week of the operation. It is noteworthy that (Marfan) disease was named after the French doctor Dr. Antonio Marfan discovered it in 1896 AD, and this disease is rare due to a defect and anomalies in the genetic genes, which leads to weakness in the wall of the aorta, as well as the heart valves with the return and expansion of those valves, especially the left heart.
