Removing a tumor on the two lobes of the liver in thirty years at the University Hospital in Jeddah, Sabq - Jeddah: Doctors announced today, Friday, their success in conducting a rare operation of its kind in Saudi Arabia, where they were able to remove a tumor on the left and right lobes of the liver of a 30-year-old patient at the University Hospital in Jeddah. The operation, which extended in its stages to eight hours, was performed by each Dr. Abd Al-Allah Al-Hawsawi and Dr. Murad Al-Jafri, a consultant in transplantation, liver and bile duct surgery at the University Hospital, Jeddah.

The surgical intervention was carried out in two stages, the first stage was accomplished through laparoscopic surgery to remove the tumor from the left part of the liver, and after about a month the medical team performed the second operation, which was a resection of the entire right lobe.

The patient recovered and was discharged from the hospital in good health.

Al-Hawsawi said that the patient will be carefully followed up to ensure that she is still free of tumors, pointing out that Dr.Shady Al-Khayyat, Consultant oncology, Dr.Eyad Fateh, Interventional Radiology Consultant, played an active role in the success of the surgical intervention and medical care that the patient received at the University Hospital.

Al-Hawsawi expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the management of King Abdulaziz University, headed by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Mahmoud Shaheen Al-Ahwal, for his efforts to support and develop the surgical and oncology service at the University Hospital.

Al-Hawsawi considered that this type of surgical intervention is unique in the region, as the common intervention in such cases is to remove tumors on one lobe of the liver, while many medical centers refrain from surgical intervention to remove tumors on two lobes of the liver, due to the difficulty. Deal with it in and out of operations.

He pointed out that the University Hospital is one of the few medical centers that perform liver tumor eradication operations in Saudi Arabia.

He revealed the medical team''s intention to present the medical case at a world medical conference on liver and bile duct tumors.
