While we''re still fighting about trivialities, two researchers in medical physiology and immunology won the 2018 Nobel Prize in medicine for discovering how the body''s natural immune system could be harnessed to attack cancer cells, which led to the discovery of drugs called check point inhibitors inhibitors. It can finally eliminate some types of cancer even in its very advanced stages.

The prestigious award is James Allison, from the MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas at Houston, and Tasco Hongo of the University of Kyoto in Japan.

The two scientists discovered the location of the braking of deadly immune cells of cancer cells, called CTLA-4, and they discovered antibodies to this braking that invalidate it, unleashing the natural immune system to attack the cancer cells and eliminate them completely.

Alison performed his first experiments at the end of 1994 and the results were "amazing", as laboratory mice in his laboratory were cured of cancer with this amazing discovery.

Congratulations to the two worlds who will be remembered by history for saving the lives of millions and welcome to a new era in which we say goodbye to cancer, welcome to science at its best.!
