"My Lady and Your Child" met Dr. Intisar Ragheb Al-Taylouni, Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology, King Abdulaziz Hospital, Jeddah To introduce us to the decline of the uterus and its causes. Uterine fall or "fall" occurs as a result of weak muscles and ligaments in the abdomen, so the pregnant woman feels heavy in the abdomen and back pain, and there are serious cases with which drug therapy is difficult, and you need surgical intervention.

To start with, Dr. Intissar explained that the uterus is located in the pelvic cavity, and maintains its place for the following reasons:

The presence of ligaments connecting the cervix and the upper part of the vagina to the pelvic wall from the sides, front and back.

The vitality of the tissues surrounding the vagina.

The presence of the pelvic floor muscles, which surround the vagina and separate it from the rectum from behind.

So there are many muscles and ligaments in there. For the uterus to be able to carry the fetus and the surrounding fluid in the womb.

Causes of uterine prolapse

Weak cervical ligaments due to

Natural weakness, and falls may occur before marriage and childbirth.

Repeat birth without an appropriate time-lapse. Until the ligaments and muscles regain strength.

Pushing to try to give birth before the full widening of the cervix weakens the ligaments.

Trying to generate the head by injection or suction device before the cervix has fully widened.

If the newborn is large, and during birth, the membranes surrounding the vagina will be torn.

Weakness of ligaments and muscles after menopause, where the hormone estrogen that affects the vitality and strength of these ligaments and muscles decreases.

Torn muscles of the pelvis and perineum: this occurs due to childbirth and the failure to sew these lacerations.

Uterine tendency to the back: This helps the uterus to land in the vagina, then press it.

Incentive factors

Chronic cough.

Chronic constipation.

Lift heavy things.

Abdominal tumors.

As these causes lead to an increase in pressure in the abdominal cavity (pressing the top of the uterus down), as well as pulling the uterus from below through vaginal falls.
