Naima Akbar, head of the disease vector control program, to "Okaz": 3 mosquitoes in Jeddah, the most dangerous of which is "Aedes aegypti" Muhammad Daoud - Jeddah Print Write your opinion Tell your friend Send your notes I explained to "Okaz", head of the hemorrhagic fevers unit and supervisor of the disease vector control program in preventive medicine In the health of the grandmother of Dr. Naima Akbar, that there are three types of mosquitoes in Jeddah, namely: (Culex, Aedes aegypti, and Anopheles), explaining that the most common of them are Culex, and the most dangerous of which is Aedes aegypti, which causes dengue fever.

She pointed out that the three types of mosquitoes cause different and dangerous diseases, because Culex, which is observed to spread more everywhere, even homes, is considered a vector for RVF disease, but its risk is weak in Jeddah because its virus is not endemic, and therefore does not pose a danger to the people, as for the dengue mosquitoes it is It poses a risk in the fact that the presence of three prevalent types of its virus predispose to infection, especially with the availability of factors predisposing to its reproduction, including the remnants of rainwater, while Anopheles mosquitoes are less dangerous to Jeddah because the parasite is not endemic and no cases have been recorded for it, and the rare infections that were previously observed or recorded were Cases from outside the Kingdom and diagnosed in our hospitals.

Dr. Naima pointed out that the increase in expectations of dengue fever after the rain wave is due to the mosquito cycle until it becomes able to infect others with the disease, and it is a cycle that begins with three stages: the mosquito life cycle of eggs, larvae and adult mosquitoes, and this stage may take from 3-11 days With the necessity of availability of water, which constitutes a fertile environment for his life, and the second stage is the external incubation period, meaning the reproduction of the virus inside the mosquitoes, and it begins after an infected person bites the virus, and this stage takes a week until he becomes a carrier of the disease, and the third stage is the cycle of the virus inside The human body, as the virus multiplies in the patient’s blood, and it takes 5-13 days for the person to have symptoms.

It indicated «that dengue mosquitoes breed in pools of clean, fresh, stagnant, and shallow water, albeit as small as water gathered around abandoned plants and trees, and in buildings under construction, old car tires, empty drink cans, vases, barrels and water tanks in dwellings and stagnant air conditioners. Fresh water was also observed. Suitable for the breeding of dengue mosquitoes on rooftops, shrubs and basements, and unlike the Anopheles mosquitoes that transmit malaria and Culex mosquitoes, the peak activity of the dengue mosquito is early morning as well as before sunset.

The supervisor of the vector control program in preventive medicine called for the need to intensify efforts to get rid of mosquito breeding centers inside homes and around the house, including water basins and solid waste, in addition to using mosquito nets and mosquito repellent indoors, with an emphasis on not using any materials. It is harmful to the health of children, and in the case of spraying the house, it is preferable to spray and leave the house so that the smells do not cause any irritation to the chests of children and adults, especially those with asthma.
