Removal of more than (50) fibroids from the uterus of a Saudi girl, while preserving the uterus
A surgical team in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Security Forces Hospital has succeeded in preserving the integrity of the uterus and ovaries of a 26-year-old Saudi girl who has never had children from the excision, during the operation to remove more than (50) fibroids from her uterus, which is one of the most rare surgeries in the world.
This was stated by Dr. Imad Rashad Saqer, consultant obstetrics, gynecology and gynecological oncology at the Security Forces Hospital and the supervisor of the case, and he mentioned that the patient had previously undergone surgery during which eight benign tumors were successfully removed from her uterus, and after two years the previous symptoms of severe abdominal pain and swelling in addition to bleeding returned to her. During the period of severe menstruation, and after conducting the necessary examinations, sound rays and laboratory analyzes, it became clear that she had fibroids in the uterus in an active state in a large amount and sizes, and CT scans and magnetic resonance rays indicated that the size of the uterus reached (30 cm) and during which the locations and numbers of tumors were determined, which called The medical team has to meet with the patient and her guardian, explain the operation and its danger to the uterus in the event of bleeding, God forbid, and draw up a precise surgical plan for the operation, bearing in mind the preservation of the integrity of the uterus and ovaries from the removal as a primary goal in the operation, as the patient has never had a child.
Dr. said. Saqr said that the operation took more than six hours, as the abdomen was opened and all the tumors were removed, which posed a challenge to the surgical team because each tumor must be removed separately while preserving the uterus, and he said that according to what is mentioned in the specialized medical scientific journals that are medically recognized, the number of tumors Those that reach from 20 to 30 fibroids are very difficult to remove without a complete hysterectomy, but in this case the number of tumors reached more than (50) tumors of different sizes, the largest of which was (15 cm) in diameter while the rest ranged between (2 to 12 cm) And it passed without any negative results, which means that the chance of pregnancy and childbearing, thank God, still exists.
Dr. Saqr said that, thanks to God, and then with the efforts of my colleagues from the hospital''s medical team, headed by Dr. Hessa Al-Dahami, head of the obstetrics and gynecology department, who supervised the case with me before, during and after the operation, we succeeded in removing all tumors while preserving the integrity of the uterus and ovaries from being removed, and the patient left the hospital in good health without Any of the symptoms that were bothering her.
On the other hand, the patient’s father expressed his thanks to the Lord Almighty, then to the officials at the Ministry of Interior, headed by His Royal Highness Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, His Royal Highness Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Minister of Interior, and His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Nayef, Assistant Minister The Interior for Security Affairs, who provided this medical edifice with all the necessary capabilities to provide medical services comparable to what is provided in developed countries, and extended his sincere thanks to the hospital administration, headed by His Excellency Dr. Suleiman Al-Suhaimi, Director General of the Security Forces Hospital Program, the medical team, and all hospital employees.
