the emergence of his skull
An integrated medical team consisting of neurosurgery, plastic surgery, oral surgery and ophthalmology at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center carried out a complex surgery that lasted approximately six hours for a two-year-old child suffering from a congenital deformity in the head that led to a protrusion in the skull. The first operation of its kind in the maxillofacial surgery program at the hospital since its inception.
Dr. Essam bin Abdulaziz Al-Shuail, a consultant neurosurgeon at the hospital, explained that this type of operation has become one of the routine operations in the hospital due to the availability of qualified competencies and advanced technologies. He mentioned that the Facial and Skeletal Surgery Program was established at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in late 1999 AD with the recommendations of His Excellency Dr. Anwar Al-Jabarti, the consultant and supervisor of the administration and the executive general manager, started with the efforts of doctors from various departments, namely Dr. Al-Shuail and Dr. Maher Hassouna from Neurosurgery, Dr. Fouad Hashem from Plastic Surgery and Dr. Othman Al-Twairqi from Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, where nearly fifteen operations have been performed since The time so far all praise be to God has been successful. Regarding the small number of operations that were performed through the program during the past two years, Dr. Al-Shail said that this is primarily due to people''s fear of conducting this type of operations for not falling into something that is legally forbidden, and on this occasion I would like to explain to everyone that there is a fatwa issued by the Council of Senior Scholars in the Kingdom Saudi Arabia stipulates that performing cosmetic surgery for congenital anomalies or as a result of accidents is legally permissible, and the second reason is that the program is still in the beginning, as the program is witnessing a continuous development in terms of technologies and an increase in the number of members of the medical team of the program in all the medical specialties required to raise the program’s capacity to receive the largest number Of cases. It is worth noting that King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center is always considered one of the leading hospitals in conducting complex operations and treating difficult cases, God willing, thanks to God first and then the unlimited support that the hospital receives from the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, may God protect him.
