The American Patent Authority has registered a patent and intellectual property rights for an innovative surgical method that was developed for the first time by a team of doctors in the Urology Department, College of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah.
Prof. Dr. Ahmed Jalal Al-Sayyad, Professor and Head of Urology Department, College of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, stated that the idea of this innovative operation was the result of many years of experience with many categories of pathological conditions in children who suffer from neurogenic complications of the urinary bladder or bladder dysfunction. Associated with the posterior urethral valve and many other similar conditions, as such diseases may lead, if neglected to treatment, to severe health consequences that may lead to kidney failure and functional failure of the entire urinary system. With intractable cases of treatments, several surgeries are traditionally performed to enlarge the urinary bladder by adding part of the intestine with the re-implantation of the ureters, but these traditional surgeries are accompanied by several difficulties and complications.
Based on the above, the team of researchers in the Urology Department at the university worked to develop a new and developed surgical method, which we called (FEZ) to use a part of the intestine that is reshaped in an innovative way to increase the size of the urinary bladder and improve its functions with ureter transplantation to preserve renal functions, at the same time. One and the least complications.
This innovative surgical method and its results have been published in one of the largest international scientific journals, as well as reviewed at an international conference in Germany, and aroused great approval among the audience of scientists from all countries of the world. Finally, the “American Patent Authority” registered the patent and preserved the intellectual property right for this new surgical method for the team of scientists in the Urology Department, College of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University.
Professor Al-Sayyad went on to say that this huge achievement is - after the grace and success of God Almighty - due to the diligent and tireless work of the members of the Urology Department, led by Prof. Dr. Abdul-Malik Tayeb. And also because of the continuous and endless support provided to us and all scientists in the College of Medicine from the administration and His Excellency the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Mahmoud Shaheen Al-Ahwal, and His Excellency the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Youbi, in order to achieve the vision of 2030 for our rational government, headed by our King, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz May God protect him and His Highness, His Royal Highness, Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman, may God protect him.
We ask God Almighty to guide us and direct our steps so that we may all work for the good and the glory and honor of our college, our university, and our dear and honorable country.
