if they do not complain of thirst

Family and Community Medicine Consultant Dr. Muhammad Bakr Salih Qandiyah called on the community members to provide children and the elderly with fluids and fresh juices even if they do not complain of thirst, as part of their care and concern for their health, indicating that children and the elderly may not complain of thirst if they are in air-conditioned rooms. However, to keep their bodies in a state of permanent hydration, they must be provided with fluids, the most important of which is water and fresh juices, while limiting caffeinated drinks such as tea and coffee.

He added: Everyone''s need for fluid intake increases with hot weather, especially with high humidity, as the body needs to compensate for what the body loses in order to be in a state of hydration. It leads to disturbing health symptoms such as headache, dizziness, and a feeling of exhaustion and fatigue, while the symptoms increase in severity if the deficiency rate rises to 5%, and may lead to serious complications if the deficiency rate reaches 10-12%. Drinking water is a necessity for our bodies because of its major roles. in various bodily processes.

Dr. Qandeh warned against consuming soft drinks to quench thirst, as soft drinks do not benefit the body at all, rather they are considered diuretics and cause a feeling of flatulence, while drinking water also helps to expel toxins, waste and bacteria from the body to fight diseases and infections, in addition to strengthening the immune system. ,

Water also promotes good digestion and regular bowel movement, and in the event that water is not taken well, the individual often complains of constipation and bloating.

He stressed that everyone, including the elderly and children, must drink water daily in the correct manner, equivalent to 6-8 cups, regardless of other liquids that contain sugars, caffeine, or salts, as these liquids do not perform the tasks of water, which is important to compensate for fluid loss from body, which is lost through sweating, to prevent dehydration, maintain the digestive system and promote healthy skin.

In conclusion, Dr. Qandeh advised everyone to eat vegetables and fruits because they contain a lot of vitamins, minerals and liquids, to avoid places of sunlight, which makes the body in a state of constant hydration, to drink fresh juices, especially those that contain liquids such as watermelon, orange, pomegranate, carrot and lemon, All of them are beneficial to the body. Avoid exercising in times of heat, as high temperatures lead to exhaustion of the body.
