of dark coffee

Family and Community Medicine Consultant Dr. Muhammad Bakr Salih Qandeh warned community members against drinking too much dark coffee due to its negative repercussions on the individual’s health, especially on the bones, increasing the heart rate, disrupting the sleep system and the biological clock, and causing nocturnal insomnia, which makes it difficult to enter the stage of sleep.

He said, coinciding with International Coffee Day, which the world celebrates on the first of October every year: Moderation is required in consuming dark coffee, as it is sufficient to drink two cups a day, provided that the second cup should be away from sleep in the evening, meaning leaving a number of hours of no less than 5-6 about bedtime, and the reason for this is that the caffeine present in coffee may hinder the individual from falling asleep, causing insomnia.

Caffeine also activates the kidneys, so they work faster than usual, which leads to the need to urinate at a higher level. For this reason, it is advisable not to drink too much coffee and to adhere to the golden rule that says that the best things are in the middle, and this applies to moderation in drinking dark coffee.

He pointed out: Studies have shown that drinking too much coffee may lead to exposure to severe anxiety and tension as a result of increased secretion of the hormone cortisol and adrenaline, which leads to nervousness, tension, and a feeling of fatigue. Also, increasing coffee intake leads to disturbances in the digestive system, as caffeine helps irritate the intestines. Which increases the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, and in addition to that, coffee plays a role in increasing stomach acidity and causing heartburn resulting from esophageal reflux.

“Qandeh” added: Excessive coffee consumption affects the absorption of minerals in the body, especially iron, magnesium, calcium and zinc, which causes damage to kidney health and failure to retain these important minerals for their regular functioning, which may cause (God forbid) the occurrence of kidney disease.

Pregnant women are also advised not to drink more than a cup of coffee a day because the child is sensitive to caffeine. This means that if the woman is a heavy coffee consumer, she must be careful.

Dr. Qandiah concluded his talk by saying

People who drink a lot of dark coffee should consume suitable and available natives, such as water and Arabic coffee in moderation, and fresh juices, because they contain vitamins and minerals that benefit the body and make the individual feel energetic and energetic.
