King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Jeddah celebrated the occasion of successfully carrying out 100 operations for open heart surgery, representing the outcome of six months from the beginning of the heart and thoracic surgery center for various heart and lung diseases, which include congenital anomalies, valve diseases, coronary artery disease, and lung diseases. Dr. Ahmed Jamjoom, a consultant cardiac surgeon at the hospital, indicated that some surgeries for pediatric heart diseases, congenital anomalies in the heart, are represented by simple defects such as holes between the atria and ventricles, to complex cases such as a quadruple congenital defect and compound holes between the heart chambers, which were 68 surgeries.
It is worth noting that some complex cases such as compound holes in the heart and patients with low weights of children less than one kilogram, this type of surgery requires very complex and accurate operations as this type of surgery is only performed in specialized scientific medical centers and, thank God Almighty, it was conducted in Hospital and with great success.
In addition, coronary artery transplantation operations have been successfully completed, and among the patients who had severe weakness in the heart muscle or who had previous heart operations, which increases the complexity of the operation and the difficulty of caring for the patient after surgery, the number of these operations was seventeen.
In addition to these surgeries, valve replacement operations represented in the replacement of one or two valves as a result of rheumatic fever in the heart, and a complex process to regulate the heartbeat called the process of distinction was also performed, as well as two cases were performed, in one of which the entire left lung of the patient was removed and in the second operation, the excision was made Part of the patient''s right lung, and these operations are the result of a joint effort between the departments of cardiac surgery, the cardiology department, the pulmonology department, the internal medicine department, and the nursing department at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Jeddah.
