Vaginal gas is one of the common health problems among women, especially married women, and it is gas that comes out of the vagina, whether during intercourse, coughing, or exercising.

We met Dr. Intisar Ragheb Al-Taylouni, Consultant and Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology at King Abdulaziz Hospital and Oncology Center in Jeddah, to talk to us about this.

Al-Taylouni made it clear that this issue has no treatment with medical devices and does not increase with marriage. Because air does not come from inside the body, but comes from outside, and it must exit in the same way.

• Natural causes of vaginal gas

1. The main reason for the exit of air from the vagina, is its entry from the vagina, that is, from the outside, due to the spacing of the thighs, especially during exercises.

2. The use of tampons ( native to sanitary pads), causes air to enter when you put them in and when you remove them if you use them during your period.

3. Weakness of the pelvic floor muscles, and the reason for this is obesity, frequent natural births, or advanced age.

4. The practice of intimacy in certain situations, may lead to the entry of a large amount of air into the vagina.

5. Coughing, and extreme sports, cause a stretch in the inner wall of the vagina, and the duct expands, which leads to the entry of air, and when the muscles relax again, the air comes out of the vagina in the form of vaginal gases.

6. Vaginal air occurs in pregnant women, as a result of pregnancy complications, and after childbirth, the genitals descend, as the natural location of the woman''s reproductive organs changes.

• Tips to get rid of vaginal gas with ease?

1. Doing squatting exercises, especially when urinating.

2. It is preferable to strengthen the pelvic muscles, and this may be done by practicing Kegel exercises, taking care to empty the bladder before exercise.

3. If you can''t do Kegel exercises, we recommend you just try walking, and you will find that the rate of air exit has decreased a lot.

4. Among the herbal drinks that are recommended to drink: (Berra, anise, cumin, mint), and drink it during the menstrual cycle, or during the postpartum period on a daily basis, at the rate of a cup before bedtime.
