Dr. Hani Kamal Negm, President of the Saudi Heart Association, revealed serious indications that the number of people with heart diseases in the Kingdom will increase in the coming years, noting that cardiovascular disease is now the main cause of death, and it includes heart attacks, stroke and sudden death.
Dr. Najm called for effective strategies to be developed to confront this danger, stressing in press statements to him yesterday that studies indicate that the percentage of female patients is lower than men, but the success of surgeries and internal catheters for them is less successful than men.
He added: "Fears about the expansion of heart diseases are great, especially since the largest proportion of our society is young people under the age of 25, who make up 50%, and with the availability of risk factors such as smoking, obesity and lack of exercise will increase the percentage of patients, and this requires finding quick strategies to confront this." danger.
He said that one of the most important strategies is to increase the production efficiency of the current centers and to increase the number of centers in the Kingdom, which lack cardiac services at the present time.
He added: "Scientific research has proven that many factors leading to these diseases can be prevented and avoided, and many industrialized countries have managed in the last three decades to reduce death rates from coronary artery disease by more than half by following scientific methods in prevention, treatment and change of lifestyle."
Dr. Najm stated that one of the association’s goals is to educate the public about a proper way of living and the contribution of government agencies to the development of legislation to reduce smoking and encourage healthy nutrition and exercise, stressing that among the most important losses resulting from cardiovascular diseases are estimated at millions of riyals, which are spent on treating illness and staying in hospitals. In addition to the loss resulting from interruption from work, especially the most productive years of life, and the ensuing psychological and social effects on the individual and society.
